I'm looking for a syn. stock that would actually lighten my rifle up a bit. It looks to be a shooter but is a tad heavy to suit me. Length of pull is a little long also. Any suggestions on a good stock that won't break the bank. I was thinking of a B&C but I haven't seen one in person and the weight?? Opinions please.

The B&C hunting stock is 2-2.25# not going to save you much if any weight. The Hogue is about the same weight. There are several stocks available in the 1# range but they will run you a lot more $$.

As usual just my $.02

I got a B&C Carbelite stock for my Weatherby Vanguard that came with the same cheap plastic Butler Creek stock that I think HOWA uses. Made a big difference in how the guns shoots. With the factory stock, I had to tighten the action screws with exactly the right amount of torgue - too little and I would get vertical stringing big time, too much and the action would bind and the safety wouldn't work.

I just replaced the plastic Butler Creek stock on my Vanguard with a Boyd's JRS Classic laminated stock that someone else had pulled off of his Howa 1500 Supreme. He was probably trying to lighten his up, too.
cheers

Depends on the money you want to spend. I'd
send it off to Bansners for a HI-TECH installation! (Break the bank is a relative term?)

Mine is the wood stock version and I am mainly wanting to get it in a synthetic. The rifle shoots good in the wood one but I just don't like it(ugly and needs slimming up). Is the B&C slimmer from the tang to the forearm on the stock? If not I might spend more and go with H-S precision or McMillian. The weight loss is not the primary concern, but it would be nice. Thanks guys for the help. Big Grin

Thanks Don thats the kind of stock I was looking for. Is there any reason that the vangard model would not work on the howa 1500? I'm just going to order the stock as is and finish it myself(with my gunsmiths help). What all should I look into on the install?

Raybass - The HOWA and the Vanguard are one in the same. The only difference is that on the Vanguard they put light flutes in the bolt and the Weatherby name on it. I have an original Vanguard synthetic that you are welcome to for the price of shipping. It has a decent recoil pad and sling swivel studs on it. I have to keep adding to this thing because I forget top include it. Mine is the WSM action as I bought it in .300WSM.

Hey, don't forget the three little vent holes drilled in the right side of the Vanguard's bolt!

Kinda like Buick "portholes." Smiler

This is high tech Weatherby engineering at its best! Big Grin
