Check out my latest creation! It's a Sears store brand version of a Savage 340 30-30 that I got in trade for a Mossberg M44us. First thing added was a B-Square scope mount holding onto a Nikon Pro-Staff 3x9x40 via a set of ultra low burris zee rings. Then came the straight line thumbhole stock from Richards microfit. It took something like 12 weeks to get this stock made but it was well worth the wait! After a good deal of inletting, bedding with quicksteel, sanding and prepping came 10 coats of tung oil applied over the course of a week and lastly 2 coats of spray on spar urethane for that final weatherproofing and high gloss finish.

So whatchya think? Probably not what you expected clicking on a 30-30 thread huh? I'll try to snap a better photo in natural lighting tomorrow.

You know, I'm not normally a fan of high-gloss wood but on that rifle it just plain looks right! Nice job!

This project reminds me of the age old question:

Why would anyone want to put lipstick on a pig?

Answer:

To get a slightly better looking pig, of course!

Just poking fun. Smiler Wink Don't see many customized Sears-Savage bolt rifles in .30-30.

That stock is slick and suits that Sears-Savage to a T (as in thumbhole).

Krochus - good job. It looks great. What wood grade did you purchase from Richards? I was thinking of purchasing one but I wasn't sure which grade.

It was the standard grade black walnut, straight line thumbhole, presentation pad. $134 shipped

It looks great already, but what about removing the sights, barrel swivel attachment, and how about reaming it to 30-30 AI? I really like the stock

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Hmm, I've got a battered Savage 348 in .30-30AI that's been a truck gun for a long time but still shoots well for what it is. Gives me some ideas.

Nicely done.

Krochus - Wow. That good and it's standard grade walnut. I can't imagine how nice their AA or AAA would look.

A short, light bolt rifle in .30-30 complete with a barrel band swivel!!!!!

What's not to like here. That's a sweet woods hunting rifle for sure and for personal reasons I really like thumbhole stocks.

Add some tasteful checkering and you have a very fine personalized custom rifle.....nice!

I would truncate the foreend tip a bit if that helps...

I second the notion of doing the AI. The 30/30 has such a long neck you can reall add alot of powder space...tj3006

BUT....... the fly in the ointment is where in the heck do you find a barrel nut wrench for a savage 340 these days???????

I'll just keep the 30-06 handy for when I need more horsepower. The 340's elastic action has a hard enough time coping with STD 30-30 loads

Very nice rifle Krochus.. beautiful restoration job..

That stock turned out great.. I have one in camo laminate I received recently for a Savage 116..

That 30/30 and that stock flames my desire for a Model 54 in 30/30 and one in 35 Remington...with a nice stock like that on it..

Well done!!!!
