I've had a Weatherby synthetic in 300WinMag for some time. It's been used a lot, mainly in Africa. Is it worth keeping the action and replacing both barrel and stock? I would like a HS or McMillan stock and a lighter, fluted barrel. The reason for the upgrade is to avoid another tiresome brush with UK firearms laws, but is the action worth the trouble? The work would not need to be subject of another round of form-filling, fee paying and time waiting, other than with gunsmith.
Any guidance happily received.
Regards
Robert

Sounds like a top idea.

If the action is in good condition I can not see a problem.
Order the Stock to suit your length of pull and get the gunsmith to set the barrel up so the rifle has good balance.
Good luck,
Regards,
Charlie.

If the action is in good condition, go for it. I highly recommend Pac-Nor barrels and prefer the McMillan stock over the HS.

Rdash, I wouldn't hesitate to use a Weatherby action for anything. Best action out there as far as I'm concerned. I agree with TreeFarmer on the Pac-Nor barrels and I like MPI stocks myself.

Kenny Jarret uses Weatherby actions for the "BIG" calibers.

Thanks chaps. I'm going ahead with a Border barrel - well it's UK made and seems as good as anything - and a McMillan stock. It's mission is plains game in Zim this November.

Robert
