Ruger RSM action buy?
The post by Surefire7 about getting a run of Ruger African rifles in odd calibers and some of the replies got me to thinking. While they have long since ceased production on the RSM long actions, I am sure that they did not scrap the tooling just yet. I wonder if Ruger could be enticed to make a run of complete actions/bottom metal included, if you could get up an order for 200 ? If it were anywhere reasonable, I would buy one. Just curious if anyone else would?

Interesting. I'm sure they would if there was a quantity order to justify the resetting of tooling up. I know that in the 80s when S+W did that wagon trail commemerative in 44-40 on the N frame; I called them + asked if they were planning on adding these to their line. They said, if you order 100 we will sell to you direct. So, something to think about.

Never mistake motion for action.

Lee, I have so many Ruger RSM rifles, that I don't need any more.

However, I see you want something other than the offerings of Ruger's RSM past (375, 416, 458).

What are you hoping to build on an RSM action?

They have a policy of not selling actions, last time I asked. They used to sell barreled actions, but no more. I used to buy #1 actions from them.
Have to have barrels on them; some sort of liability.
All you need to do is get a few guys to agree on it, PAY up front, and I will do the rest.
Or, one guy pony up $50K first and take the risk.
Easy. (Not).

Surefire7 I had an RSM in 458 Lott that I sold to a friend who had to have it. I retained a 416 Rigby. I don't really know, but actions that accept the Rigby, both 416 and 450, tend to be desirable through the years. I don't really have any plans for any more big bores, but I would salt away an action or two if they were available.

Does the RSM action provide a lot more than the Montana PH? Both investment cast double square bridge full magnum actions.

The Montanas sell for about $1K. If Ruger were to sell actions, which they won't, they would be less.
They are both suitable.

yes and no. . the PH is HUGE, there's few stock patterns available, and likely weighs more -- i've had both, but didn't put them on a scale
