Just took possession of a Winchester 70 CRF Stainless Sporter from the 90s. The guy said it had the box, but no picture of it. The pics of the gun were fantastic, but after a lot of searching found no evidence such gun was produced. A lot of classic sporters, a lot of stainless classics with the Tupperware. I picked up the gun today and original box, rifle, and hang tag all serialized, called the classic sporter, walnut, stainless. The coolest post 64 I have seen. I can't wait to shoot it. It's in the venerable .270Win and the trigger was tuned to 2.4lbs. Not a mark on it. Has anyone else ever seen one of these in any caliber?

I saw a 30-06 that sounds like yours, very nice walnut stock, better than newer supergrades, and I believe it hade a thinner red pad. Went back to buy it about a week after I saw it and it was gone

I have only seen two or three of those rifles ever. IIRC, these were made in 270, 30-06, 7mmRM, 300WM and 338WM, about 1997. Seldom seen, and a great snag to get one with box and all.

I have certainly seen both the Classic Stainless with the wood stocks (the Classic Sporter) and the plastic stocks in Model 70s from that era. All very good rifles especially if you find a good one. I think both the Stainless and the Laredo rifles were some of their best work in the time period.

I picked up an unfird one years ago in 7mm Remington mag. Had hill country bed the original stock. It sports the factory 26" barrel and shoots 160 Accubonds into less tha 3/4". Love it.

I've seen a few of the wood/stainless classic sporters through the years. I don't remember exactly when they were produced. The late 90's sounds about right.

I have seen a few of those around and remember them being in the catalog in the late 90's. IMO, they're very beautiful combinations, and if I was ever lucky enough to find one in LH, I'd jump all over it.

I owned one in the mid-90's. Bought it new, in 30/06. IIRC it was available in most popular hunting calibers. They weren't on the market long. Due to cost they were not a good seller. It was identical to the one pictured in Alf's post. Wish I would have kept it but I got bit by the magnum bug.

I have one in .270. I got it when one of the big guys was closing them out. It is about as nice a factory hunting rifle as you can find.

My brother had one similar to ALF's but it was a short action, 22/250 stainless classic in a Featherweight stock. Nice rifle
It was stolen a few years ago....

It is similar to ALFs with the same brushed stainless finish, but not the featherweight. It is in the sporter stock with a 24 inch barrel. I just finished mounting a silver Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44. It is a pretty sharp rig. I also set to scrub the bore, but the previous owner had all but the slightest amount of copper already removed. If this gun shoots half as good as it looks it should be a gem. I am not usually big on stainless, but this one has me pretty smitten.

Saw one in 300 Win Mag at the local gunshow last month. I was heading over to buy it when I stumbled across a newly arrived pre 64 M-70 FWT in 270 in 90% condition with the aluminum butt plate. The FWT followed me home that day, but I won't pass on another wood stocked stainless 300 Winny....

I have one in 270 that I bought second hand in Austin at Mcbride's. It was several years ago and I have hunted with it and it shoots better than I can. I also have a North Carolina 30-06 That I bought 3 years ago. It was new. Both are featherweights.

Had this rifle to the pit on Saturday. Pretty and smart. Shot the three loads I brought very well - 140 ballistic tips and 130 and 140 Gamekings. All shot about MOA with the 140 HPBT Gamekings closer to 3/4 MOA. Next will be TSXs and Partitions. The full 24 inch barrel and 8 pounds make this rifle an absolute joy to shoot...I am in love!

I've got one that is a 30-06 Classic stainless Featherweight in wood stock. Mine is an early five digit. These are getting harder to find.

I had one of these in 308 Win. At one point I was talking to somebody at Winchester about them, and was told they were made for the Shot-Show sometime in the 1990s. It was an accurate gun.

I bought my son a very mint LH Model 70 Classic CRF stainless /synthetic in 416 Rem. Hard to find but worth it. We had the barrel shortened to 22", had the action/barrel CeraKoted, put on(NECG sights, Talley steel QR rings and Leupold 1.5-5x scope. Sorry the picture is older so it doesn't show the newer sights, rings and scope.

It's a nice rifle, but it wasn't cheap, but it was his present for separating from the Rangers after four years.

Regards,

Chuck
