When useing the sourdough or partridge type square rear notch- square front blade type iron sights that are on some merkel double rifles and other rifles and muzzle loaders,Do you line the top of the rear sight with the top of the front sight and your bullet placement should be right on top of the front sight blade, like a pumpkin sitting on a fence Or bullet hits slightly below the front tip and the tip can be a little high and be exceptable? or a 6oclock hold-which i hate for accurate shot placement but can use in a pinch if forced? Just wondering as these express double rifle sights would be used very quickly at close range with a chargeing express train trying to run over top of you-not much time to line a whole lot up just peachy perfect? With nerves wired tight!just wondering what you guys sight picture looks like with this type sight set up? I watched the video clip of the lady shooting the chargeing cape buffalo and was really thinking this chargeing sight picture over iron sights stuff. I would tend to think that a mad wounded hog deer/bear could charge just as quickly and a iron sight express rifle like the ruger would be awsome to have but really dont know about the bead....would a sourdough sight be quicker-deadlier for hunting fastly approching express trains??? I wonder if the new 45-70 remington double rifles everyone has got to get will have the sourdoughs? Oh yea-if you havent seen the video-please do as the lady hunter really holds her ground and it is a fantastic clip....... | ||

For starters I would change those horrible sights...Whoever did that should have been dumped....Thats a damn pistol sight. The sourdough partride sight is for a peep sight to start with..A double calls for a 3/32 Ivory or brass bead and a shallow V rear.. Fortunately It's a quick fix. My Sauer rifle came with sourdough style sights too, and although being fairly good at target shooting, they where too slow to line up when shooting at moving game. After some searching I got a fiber optic front sight, and a Skeleton V rear sight, and I’m very pleased with the change. The sights now are much more easy to align on target. If it is for an express rifle, or you prefer the more traditional sights, follow Atkinson advice and you will be very well served.
