For a high quality, dependable scope in a smaller package, I would recommend a Leupold 6x by 36mm. I have a couple of these and they are bright and durable. 6x has always been enough mag for shots out to 300 yards, for me, at least.

For what it is worth,.358 and RSY are really pointing you in the right direction. If small and light are important than the K 2.5 is the answer. Like the man said " 300 yards is a chip shot." It also gets on target fast. roger

Savage 99,
I don't know but I wear bifocals..I have good distance vision. I have never understood how one can use eyesight for an excuse with a scope, that doesn't fly! Maybe with irons but with glasses even irons should work well enough.

In case you haven't been informed both MAJOR parties are criminal enterprizes. They are both pulling America apart. Sadly they do it for their own gain and not for the folks back home that they are suppose to represent. Isn't there a political forum set up for this sort of NONSENSE? Are Major Caliber and Big Bore sinonimous ? roger

Ray,

If your eyesight is 20/10 you can make out with 3X what a 20/20 eye can with a 6X.

I bring this up as you always suggest 3X or other low powered big game scopes and others are going thru a lot of trouble using 6X scopes that I see no need for.

I am convinced this is the crux of the sprited disagreements on optics discussions.

To each his own.

Think about Leupold 1 X 4 or 1.5 X 5 compacts.

The 1.0 and 1.5 are good for close shooting. I prefer the 1.5 to the 1.0, because it gives just enough contrast to reassure me that I'm still looking at the same picture through the scope that my eye just left. Either scope on 4 or 5 power will give you all the magnification you need.

My 270 with 150 grains @ 2800 fps gives me

+1.75 @ 100,

0.00 @ 200 and

-7.00 @ 300 (all yards),

which is real easy to remember. A realistic point blank range is 250 and the 7" drop at 300 is perfect for a shot sighted on the spinal plane. I've used them on elk at 300 and it was easy shooting.
