CZ tells me their 9.3x62 has a twist rate of 1-9. Doesn't that seem a little fast to you guys? Any thoughts?

My Krieger barrelled 9.3x64 has a 1 in 14" twist and works good with 286gr. bullets and spectacular with the 250gr. B-Tips.

I've just become interested in the 9.3x62. The March 2004 issue of The Accurate Rifle has an article on the 375 H&H by Kevin Robertson (author of The Perfect Shot). He also talks about the 9.3. He states on page 61 that "All 9.3x62mm's have a 1 in 14 inch twist rate." Again, I just started thinking seriously about this cartridge in the last week or so, which is why I remembered the article. Finn Aagaard spoke very highly of it in his book on rifles as well. I've not had time to do any other research yet. 1 in 14 makes more sense to me. Perhaps some of the more experienced users like Mr. Atkinson will chime in.

interboat, a 9 twist does seem fast. If it has an adverse effect on accuracy, I haven't read anything about it in the posts here and elsewhere by seemingly happy CZ 9.3 owners. My own 9.3x62 was barreled with a 14 twist and shot the 286 partitions well. Considering the available bullets in this caliber, I can't imagine one that wouldn't be well stabilized by a 12 twist. Hi In new CZ catalog you can read under specification chart that their 9,3x62 has a 1/10 inch twist , if this not a printing error, then it would be very nice if one uses heavy bullets like 320 grain WL which can be only launched at lower velocity. regards danny

I was looking at 9.3 Krieger barrels, and they offer a 1/12 twist.

I have only used 1x14 twist Lothar Walthers, and Kriegers, but I was not aware that you could get any other twist in the USA...at any rate I will stick with the 1x14 as it handles 230 to 320 gr. bullets very well indeed.........If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

My Douglas barrel has a 1 in 12" twist and does well with the 286 gr bullets even the Barnes X. I may have to try a box of 320gr Woodleigh's just to see how they do. The boys at Douglas will do any twist you want down to 1 in 6" in case you want to launch harpoons from your 9.3 Rick

I bought a CZ550 9.3x62 last August. Even though CZ claims 1 in 9" (or 1 in 10"), mine measured out at about 1 in 14". I became suspicious when I first cleaned the barrel. Looking down it from the muzzle, it didn't appear to be as steep as my 1 in 10" .257R or .270. Be that as it may, it still shoots superbly with 250 gr Noslers, 270 gr Speers and Rel 15. I bought my 2nd CZ last month, a Model 527 .223 for my wife. I sure do like these rifles. For the price, the quality and shootabilty certainly exceeds that of Ruger, Remington and Winchester. I'm now contemplating a 6.5x55!!

Thanks for the input, Rottenend. I like the CZs a lot myself, own three - 9.3x62, 375 H&H and 416 Rigby - and would buy another in a minute. Strange, though, about the barrel twist thing. Do you think they just don't know? Rate of 1-9 seems way too fast, 1-14 makes me feel a lot better. Oh well, as long as they shoot.
