Should I buy? it is $578 at a local gunshow, what kind of velocities can i handload, if i push the envelope, 200gr. at 2700 fps.? anyways, i figure this could be a great gun to tinker with and it is unique caliber, | ||

2,700 might be a bit optimistic.....2,550 might be hitting it closer. The Classic is the best stock design Remington has used IMO and the 8 x 57 is a worthy big game cartridge but handloading is in order to make it look like a 30-06. If you really want an 8X57 this is a good one for sure. The price isn't really all that bad either but it's your money. You could do considerably worse. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Bomber, you chould be able to to get to 2650 with a 200, maybe 2700. The 8mm is a hell of a cartridge, and if you like 700s, go for it. I saw a Classic 700 in 8mm several years ago for about that price and was sorely tempted, but am not a Remington guy. You will be a very happy man with 8x57 mauser in your guncabinet... The 8 mm Mauser I believe is one of the most succesfull calibers ever invented. Very versatile in both powder and bullet selection. My favorit load for the 8mm consist of 53 grain N550, Norma brass, 200 grain Norma Alaskabullet. COL is 80mm. Velocity 805 M/sec or 2641Ft/Sec. Rifle: original Model B Mauser. DRSS: HQ Scandinavia.
