Fireman, good choice... I love M70's and currently have several. My favorite Model 70 is a Stainless Featherweight 30-06 that I "customized." I had the barrel cut to 21" and installed an NECG Classic rear base and Ashley (XA sights) front base and post. I installed a Williams all-steel extractor and recontoured the stainless floorplate (the stainless models have pretty "clunky" steel on the bottom) and had it re bead-blasted. I bought a Bansner fiberglass blank, bedded the rifle and installed a .80" Decelerator and had Bansner's paint the stock "Cafe" with black speckles. It carries a VX 2x7 Leupold on top in all-steel Burris Zee rings (newer, wider 8x40 screw model, lapped) and set in Leupold Weaver-Style bases (JB Welded to the receiver). It shoots 180 grain Nosler Partition's into just uner an inch consistantly at 2,750 and has accounted for a couple of bull elk, antelope, mule deer and a black bear. With an Uncle Mike's Mountain Sling and five rounds it goes 8lbs 1 oz. Here's a really bad picture (the stock is actually a rich, dark brown):

Brad, I had a stainless feather weight. I traded it to a buddy for some ginsmithing work. I've been kicking myself ever since. Where does a guy find another stainless feather weight M-70 in 06. Any tips? Greg

I am looking at buying a new M70 in .30-06. I an leaning towards a 24" barrel so that lets out Rugers. I want the CRF so Remington is out. As much as I like the CZ'z I want a US made rifle for what I feel is the US cartridge, .30-06. That leaves me a Winchester. How are the new ones? any problems? I am going to have it mildly customized so dont reallly want to pick up a pre 64. Thanks for help.
