| Grandpa, Welcome to AR. I have been loading my 7mm RM since the early 80's. I have found the best loads for my rifle to be with Reloder 22. I would also try changing bullets to either a Accubond or Interbond with the velocity that the 7 Mag sends a 140gr bullet out of the muzzle you will need something that doesn't blow up on contact. just my .02 |

| I tried some rl22. Mag pro. And imr 4350 so far I think the larger part of my problem is the barrel and stock fit just worked on it now going outside to shoot it |

| When I started with this rifle a friend told me to float the barrel would help the accuracy there is 2 rests at the end of the stock that the barrel set on so I sanded them out but the Barrel sat pn the stock the whole lenght then so I put a shim in where the Bolt goes thru now it didn't touch but still was not very consistant. So today I took the shim out and shot it with the barrel in full contact it was the best it has been. But what would be the best way to do this |

| Try a plain jane 139 gr Hornaday SP. Some guns don't shoot boat tail bullets well. But before you go nuts. Try a box of Federal 150 gr Blue Box or 150 gr Fusions. It maybe your barrel dose not like light bullets. If its still shooting poorly, then I would look at the scope, scopes do go off from time to time. My current 7mm Remington Mag will not group 160 gr bullets well enough, accurate enough for big game hunting, now 150 gr bullets that is a different story. Can cover groups with a nickel. Makes no difference in game shooting that I can see. |

| OR You can try the 162 grain Hornadys or the 175 grain Hornadys. I know my 1964 Stainless Remington 700 prefers the 175 grain bullets hands down, and they shoot a bit flatter than most people think... Just a suggestion Cal30

| I have found that in the heavier bullets Retumbo is the best in my rifle 25" barrel. fact with the 140gr Barnes TTSX I get velocity and accuracy but it's a compressed load using Hodgdon data. |

| I need a good load for shooting at a range of 200 to 30 yards. I have a blind set up where I hunt and that Is the range that the deer pass in front of me. There is a creek at 310 yards and the biggest deer stay close to it. So I need a load for that distance. Have killed plenty of deer at 200 but have missed on my 2 chances at a big buck at 300 that's why I got this rifle and have been practiceing. We have targets set up at 1. 2. And 300 yards |

| This RL 22 load is the most accurate combo my rifle will shoot, 3 shot group at 100 is 3/8".CCI250 primer, RL22 66gr with a 140gr Nosler Accubond. This load sighted in my rifle 2.5" high at 100 is 1" low at 300. I have chrono'd this load at 3300 FPS out of a 25" barrel. This load is out the Nosler manual #4 63.5gr-67.5gr Start LOW and work up .5 gr at a time until you get the accuracy you want |

| Thanks for the tips this is a great site I have read the first 130 pages on this site and found some good info on getting the barrel and stock issue solved hopefully today. Then I can work on a load for the jerky meat. Everyone looks forward to it as a Christmas gift I send it to all my family that can't shoot wink wink |

| It should be a number 2 contour barrel and normally it's best to not free float them (for a Vanguard anyway). I have a Vanguard stainless sporter in 257 Wby that is anything but free floated and it shoots very accurately. Using factory ammo is where I started with this rifle before loading my own. Because the factory ammo was very accurate I basically did my best at duplicating it with very good results. Ken....

| I was shooting this rifle yesterday from my deer blind at the targets and noticed that the trigger was not consistent and to heavy of pull. I had been shooting on a lead sled prior and had not noticed it as much looked up how to adjust it now it is much better to windy to shoot today so I have to wait to see if it helps |

| It's quite unlikely that you will resolve the accuracy with handloads.....it's far more crtitical that you glass bed the action and float the barrel It's not hard to do but it's got to be done right or things get screwed up spend a few bucks and get it glass bedded with the barrel floating...
