Does anyone know if Hornady has discontinued the 129 gr. Light Magnum loading for the 6.5x55? I've used it in the past with great results, but I'm having trouble finding it.

Check the Hornady website. You can buy straight from them too.

belaw, is that ammo safe to use in a Swedish Mauser? I'd like to try it in mine.

Handload! According to the site posted below, It listed velocity at 2750 fps for a 129 grain bullet. If it is for an action that will take the higher pressures, any good handload is capable of 2950 fps.

However if older ammo was at 2550 fps vs, the 2750 fps, take a look at trajectory charts. These bullets are fairly flat shooting, so if you are shooting at game at 200 yds or less, the Light Magnum loads are not going to give you anything more in real world performance any way.

A good old 140 grain load from most major manufacturers at 2550 or so will give you the same performance level.

Start to look at some of those light mag loads, and apply them to real world use, they really aren't worth the extra big buck expense in my book. But the factories keep turning them out and people therefore must be buying them in big numbers.

Forgive me, but to me it is as practical as when I have been to places like LA or San Fran, and you see people buying a 180 mph Porsche so they can crawl around in Metro Freeway speeds of 20 to 25 mph. But they sure look cool and rich to the poor people!

Our society sure needs a lot more practicality. People really need to pay more attention to a trajectory chart than they do to the velocity chart on the ammo they buy or load.

Just the way I see it.

Cheers and Good shooting either way.!
