I use one on almost every rifle I have, so certainly I agree the 2x7 Leupold is perfect for the 7x57. Strange - so much agreement. What's happening to this forum? We obviously need more diverse opinions. Hate to admit it, but my most hunted with rifle is 7x57 with a 2-7x Leupold as well. A good alternate would be a 1.5-6x. A shot not taken is always a miss | |||

WOW There's a lot of agreement on the 2-7x32 Leupold here. I'm glad I have a couple on my rifles so that I can state how much I agree they are a great scope but for deer I prefer a little larger objective lens for low light shooting. My Two 7x57's have Zeiss. one is a mountain rifle and the large ojective isn't important on it for sheep hunting so it has a 3-9x36 Zeiss. This rifle would do just fine with the 2-7x32 Leupold. Oldun It all depends what rifle you have. If you have a vintage Mauser rifle or some other nice vintage rifle I would try to get a nice vintage scope with good optics. I have a 8x57J and have a old Kahles 2.3-7X on it and it loks great and works like any new scope. I did not want to mount a modern scope on a rifle from 1914 and thought vintage was the way to go. Next thing to look at is the stock configuration on your rifle. Does the stock drop or is it straigt? Also look at Kahles 2-7x36 that is one nice scope. I a family man of modest means. I think the K3 or K4 would be great. I bought a Pentax 4x32 ballistic plex to mount on my 6.5x55. I have found the reticle perfect for 50 yard increments. I was looking for a K4, but found this scope and it it really great. I am not disappointed at all. Great out to 300 yards. It is mounted on a 1962 Husqvarna 1600. For a big step up I would look at a Sightron S2. I replaced my old 6-24x42AO I had on a .308 tack-driver w/ an S2 3-12x40mmAO and gained a short range hunter, but still have no issues w/ a 700 yard shot. Very clear, very precise. jp | |||

Another vote for the VXIII 2.5-8x36. Great scope, plenty magnification and will balance well on a nice light rifle. I have one on a .260 and on a 7mm-08 and I'm very pleased. | |||

Thanks to all of you for your comments. I've plumped for the Leupy 2.5-8x.  Sorry all you 2-7x blokes, the 2.5-8x sight picture with the newer indexed matched lenses seem to be that little bit brighter. Since much of my roaming about with a rifle is done in the bush, this extra; to my eye, bit of clarity clinched it.Happy hunting to one and all.  | |||

Close to what I have on my Model 70 Featherweight, except mine is the 40mm objective and also I have a heavy German Number ONE reticle instead of the # 4... That's what I thought with the full stock (mannlicher) and the vintage K3. Not something you see everyday. And the K3 does it's work very well out to the distances I shoot. --300 yards and less. | |||

normally i would choose a 3-9x42 meopta, but if you have a flatter shooting rifle in roughly the same caliber i would go 1,5-6x42 | |||

I have a Leupold 2X-7X variable on mine, but as everyone has their own idea of what a good deer rifle scope is, I see no reason one could not use the same scope they'd put on a .30/'06, .280 Remington, or a .270 Win. they plan to use for the same range of game..... I have one 2.5X-8X Leupold, now on my Ruger No. 1 .375 H&H Magnum. I would use more of these if I could afford more of them!! Hi oldun, Really I prefer the Nº 4 reticle. At low light a conspicuous(Am I writing well?)reticle is very important. And 1 or 4 are good. But on a long shot with good light, the Nº 4 has some advantage. Regards PH | |||

I agree and would like to add that it takes a lot more money to beat what you get in the Leupold VXIII 2.5x8 for a good hunting scope and their customer service is great when the occasional problem crops up. | |||

The scope was put on the rifle and tested yesterday and I have to agree it would take a lot of extra pennies to get a better scope. Swaro are better, but here in NZ they cost three times as much, they arn't three times better, no scope is | |||

I had an older Nikon 2x7 on mine and it was great, I chose a 4x Leupold for my 06 and love ti too so might go that route if I got another 7x57. I know a guy who uses the Leupold 4x rimfire scopes on his doubles (up to 9.3 x 74R) and just changes the parallax. Likes the small size and ti has worked for him for quite a while. _BAxter | |||
