Here's some pics of one I recently had for sale - this ought to get all the purists frothed up... I built it for hunting AK.

I never did sell it...

I wouldn't dare put mime in here, just a plain CZ with a 1.75-6x Nikon 30mm scope. Looks plain, shoots fancy.

dj, beautiful rifle..... It needs iron sights to be perfect.

Kurt, I damn nearly faint each time I see one of your rifles, be they Mannlicher-Schoenauers or Brnos.

Good job, boys! thumb

Like JStevens, mine is just a CZ 550 American but mine has a 2.5-8x Leupold. Has provided some great pics for me though Big Grin

This nice stallion went straight down on his knees to a single 286 gr Nosler Partition at an MV of 2425 fps. That's what I call performance!

Alf,

That Mauser 98 in 9.3 x 62 seriously rocks, as my kids would say. Is the magazine box on that rifle designed specifically for the 9.3 x 62 cartridge, or was it originally for another cartridge?
Could you favor us with more details about that particular rifle's construction?
Thanks,

lawndart

Everyone: STOP IT. STOP THIS BEAUTIFUL RIFLE PARADE RIGHT NOW! shame Cool

You are all forcing me to buy a 9.3. I've been playing all the options in my mind, and the one that keeps coming back is buying a 550 American and sending it to New England Custom Gun for some iron sights.

I wish CZ would still import the 550 Lux in the non magnum calibers........

BTW, Alf, your rifles are drool material. nut

Unlike ALF's or KurtC's or djpaintles' mine isn't much to look at. Take a Santa Barbara Mauser add a 24" Douglas barrel, lightly sand blast and blue. Attach a Choate stock and Burris 3-9 Matte scope, silver solder a peep sight to the rear scope mount and a banded Ruger front sight.

I built it to take to Africa and it wants to go back. Sorry I couldn't find a prettier model to pose with it. Wink

Pretty is as pretty does. I am a sucker for walnut, and I would have done nothing different to build your rifle except the stock materials.

Still, the proof is in the results and yours delivered. thumb

I bought mine after coming back from Namibia, so didn't get to test it over there. I have shot some coyotes and a 10-point whitetail with it since then and I'm going to slam a coastal black bear in BC in a couple months.

Thanks, this rifle may eventually get a wood stock and a three position safety. But the Choate stock is proportioned so well and feels so good it may just stay the way it is.

Big Grin Yep, reminds me of some of the guys I knew in Kansas.

As a hypothetical, I would ask: how long would it take you to drive 300 kilometers at 150 km/h? I would get blank stares. Big Grin

My 9.3x62 is a Brno Mod 21, I traced the original 7x57 barrel and used the original sleeved rear sight with one standing and one down, barrel band swivel and the original barrel band front sight fitted flush as per all the 21s....It is a neat, light, handy rifle...I have pics if interrested, but not a whiz on the computer so can't post it...

Gidday mstaling, about your 550 9.3x62, did it come from the factory with the two recoil bolts in the stock??? If that is the quality of the "American" model I'll order one now.

Malcom56,

Mine came from the factory with two recoil bolts, but is probably a little bit older manufacture as it also has a metal bottom and a metal follower. I bought it lightly used from FourTails on this forum. I don't know what the new ones have.

Has been a great rifle ... is my favorite for woods hunting in the US and did very, very well in Africa. It took Impala, Warthod, Kudu, Blue Wildebeast, and Zebra with ease. I don't think you can go wrong with the 9.3x62.

Beautiful, gentlemen, and Alf - I am envious, truly.

My 9,3x62 is coming along nicely. So nicely I am having serious problems; I was planning on selling it to finance a hunt... I am having second thoughts

I am bringing up the past here, but a few friends think this is a more logical choice for my new custom rifle that I want than what I have been looking at in the 300 H&H.

500Grains, do you still have a picture of the Win 54 in that caliber? I have an old Win 54 in 30'06, but the rifle is in bad shape. The action is fine, but the rest of the rifle is BAD! I never liked the bottom metal either.

500grains' rifle was/is much nicer in appearance than mine, but mine is on a 54 as well.

It is certainly enough gun for Kudu. 250 grain North Forks. I bought it with the metal work done (except the bottom metal is original). It really needs restocking with a higher comb (to lose the ugly pad I had added) and if I ever get around to that I'll see about putting on the Pre-64 bottom metal I picked up. It requires redrilling the bottom of the action to relocate the screw. It is nice and slick and takes 5 down but a Pre-64 would be a little easier conversion and some prefer the single-stage trigger.

I am not the expert here, but I think it is at its best at 250 and under. If you know the trajectory of your load well enough it should work further out, but just for me personally I think 250 is far enough. I have seen other thread on this subject recently where others were more comfortable at long ranges than I.

NORMA BALLISTIC has a ballistics calculator for the Norma factory ammo.

I just played with the data for 285gr Oryx ammo. With a 200 yrd zero looks to me you'll be 3 inches high at 100 yrds and a foot low at 300 yrds.

That should give you a guideline to the cartridge's effective range.
