Old, old Ray Atkinson knows a little something about reloading, I guess. I once bought a 7x57 full-stock Brno from him (UPS broke the stock, alas!) but I got another. Ray had told me to seat the bullets almost to the lands, making the OAL about 5/16" longer than standard. He also sent me his load data which "uses" the extra space in the neck of the case (the bullet being seated so far out.) Here are two, three-shot groups I shot at 100 meters yesterday with only a 6x scope. I guess Ray knows what he's talking about. I'm not really comfortable telling you the velocity of the 150 grain BT's, but let's say you don't get much more from factory 7mm Mag's. If you can find a full-stocked Brno, grab it. The workmanship is wonderful. [ 11-06-2003, 17:23: Message edited by: JudgeG ]

I just happen to have one for sale, now that you mention it, I'm building a couplel of big bores and need a little extra cash..This one shoots about the same as Erns, in fact it was Erns with the stock bolted and glassed, guarenteed never again to break and you cannot see the repair, its stronger now than it was, Belk fixed it for Ern and I watched him do it, I defy anyone to find the break...If anyone is interested give me a jingle on email or telephone...It will get 2900 FPS with a 160 gr. Nosler, with that long throat, it is basically a 7 Ackley Imp. under that set up...Thats why Ern was hesitant to tell anyone...But even Ackley said the 257 and 7x57 were the only two rifles he ever experimented with that truly improved...

With this Title my first thought was that Linda Lovelace was back. Back to guns, the 7x57 is one of the best kept secrets in the hunting world. US Factory loads are anemic due to the weak old pre 1898 rifles still existing, like Rolling blocks and early turn bolts. Put the bullet near the lands and accuracy improves, all one needs is a magazine long enough. The 7x57 with a 160 grain bullet properly seated just looks "all business". I have a "New in the Box" never barreled Mark X action with factory forged butterknife handle. It is destined to be a 7x57 in a Mannlicher stock. For "Da Judge", looks like Georgia is going to hell, with folks measuring yards in meters. Never thought it would happen. Good thing I got chased out 35 years ago.

Rick: The 100 meter berm is where the gun club shoots chickens, rams and those other little steel things that fly fifty feet up in the air when hit with a .475 N.E. I guess the National Steel Chicken Shooting Association measures in meters... I shoot where I can. Do you remember Wayne Merrier whose family owned the second hand furniture store called Piddlers on (what is now called) MLK Blvd. He just won the state silhouette championship. And, I shot the rifle Ray is selling. It is a 1/2" rifle, too. [ 11-06-2003, 19:50: Message edited by: JudgeG ]

Piddlers'? Yep, remember that place. Hmmm. What else? Faison's BBQ sauce, over on L Street. Best sauce in the world. Twin Oaks. Cruising the 55 Chevy between Twin Oaks and Shoney's. Actually had lunch at Twin Oaks a few years ago with Bob West. Not the same as it was in the '60's. T.R. May & Sons, where we sold our 'gator hides and sniffed all the dried deer tongue. Crandall Hardware, where I spent all my money on guns, cartridges, knives and fishing gear. Pig & Whistle, for those late night meals after we closed the truck repair shop for the evening. Two Way Fish Camp, where we put the boat in for runs out to Egg Island fishing for bull red channel bass. And for running up the Altamaha for sneeking into Altama Plantation the back way up hammersmith creek. And sometimes a run to the north end of Little St. Simons for a Fallow deer or to pull the 200 ft. beach seine on a full moon night. Evelyn Plantation for shooting hogs and the occassional White Tail. Paulk's Pasture for the best deer hunting in Georgia. Running the boats down to Christmas Creek on the east side of Cumberland Island for Tarpon and Clam Digging. Fishing the offshore Sandbars in St. Andrews sound. Flounder gigging on the flats on the north side of the north jetty in the mouth of the St. Mary's river. Fishing on the end of the same jetties. Damn. Some pretty good memories.

John: Sasquatch is only a mythe. What you are seeing is the same thing we have here in Oregon. Real Tall Hippies, that are usually naked because they are stoned or are tripping on something and forgot to get dressed. Or some just don't give a shit about getting dressed or not. You'd be hairy too if you did not have a haircut since 1966.

quote:The Brno I had experience with in .375 H&H had a nice long throat which perfectly matched the long magazine. The extra case volume was like having a .375 Weatherby... I sold it because it was heavier than a .375 needed to be, but it shot like a house afire and I wish I had it back.. :-( jpb

Hey Seafire, what is the name of that critter down on the main drag in Grants Pass, stands about 8 or 9 feet tall? Saw it last year when I peeled off I-5 for a gas stop. Tall naked long hair hippies, that would be more scary than Sasquatch. Hope I never see one.

I have a CZ527 in 22 Hornet and .223 Rem and both are long throated. A friend long seated his hornet and loaded over 13 gr 296 with a 45 gr bullet. He got no pressure signs and .3" groups. He was a serious reloader not a cowboy. The OAL was so long he modified the magazine to take it.
