I clocked the S&B 285 gr. 9.3x62 factory load and two handloads this morning. The handloads were a 270 gr. Speer semi-spitzer over 57/RL-15, and a 250 gr. Nosler B-Tip over 58/RL-15. (THE USUAL WARNING: These loads are safe in my rifle but may be dangerous in yours; work up to them.) Both are in Greek military 30-06 brass fireformed per Ken Howell's method and use Federal match primers. (This brass is lighter than the Remington 35 Whelen brass in which most published data is developed, and has worked well in high-test 30-06 loads.) My rifle is a CZ 550 with a 22" barrel. The S&B load ran 2,165 fps for five shots, the Speer ran 2,240 and the Nosler 2,535. Chronograph screens were at 20', the data is not corrected. ES's in the 60's, SD's in the 20's. Hotter loads are probably more consistent. Weather: no wind, rainy and 40F at 3,500' ASL. I will probably shoot for accuracy later this week. I got the S&B ammo from Ben's Loan in Renton, WA. The phone number is 425-255-3638. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions. Okie John. | ||
