glichti,

The simple answer is NO!!! Also dont let ANY salesman or manufacture tell you other wise. All muzzle brakes increase the sound level just some redirect the sound away from the shooter. If its redirected away from the shooter it has to go somewhere and that is usually toward your hunting/shooting companions. If recoil bothers you there are other ways of taking care of it. One - make sure the stock fits you. Two - Make sure the rifle is of suitable weight for the cartridge you are shooting. Three - The use of a good mercury recoil reducer will help as much as any brake will. Mercury recoil reducers DO NOT just add weight to the rifle as some un-informed will say. I tried replacing the 11 oz. mercury reducer with 11 oz. tube of lead and it proved the mercury works. Lawdog

I have the B.P. on my 416 Hoffman & I shoot it with out ear muffs when I am hunting. It is the only one that that I can say that for. Even the Vias has an increas in noise to me but not as bad as most. In Africa last year there were no complaints from the guide or tracker's . Buy it & enjoy

Actually, we can use silencers here. However, it depends on the state. Many states actually allow silencers.

There is a $200 dollar fee for something...can't remember, plus the cost of the silencer...usually a cheaper one starts at around $400.

Yes a silencer/supressor will do that for you.

But I guess you guys are not allowed owning one. Are you ??

Here in Norway more and more people use a silencer/supressor on their hunting rifles because of the lessened recoil, less muzzle flash and as a protection for your hearing

Is there really a muzzle brake that doesn't increase the blast to bystanders? I've heard that the Vais brake is quieter than most. Also, anyone used the VA Comp from BP Tech? Theirs is expensive, but if it works as advertised, I'll spring for it. Any help would be appreciated.

I hope this does not turn into a pissing contest as that benefits no one ! Lawdog & Djpaintles have some rather strong convictions but so do I The question I have for them is this have you shot the B.P muzzle brake or not ???

I have shot Cellini's - k.d.f. Answer Vias & a couple more & will agree with them in that all of them are louder( EXCPET )the B.P. I have let more than a few shoot my 416 Hoffman & not one single shooter or observer could tell with out looking if the brake was on or off the rifle from the sound. You can also shoot from the prone position no problem as it has no holes in the end & 4 holes in a line stright on top. As I said before buy it & enjoy it. I do use ear muffs at the bench but not hunting but I also use muffs at the bench for every thing I shoot
