Located myself an 03 action from another AR member today, so now I officially am starting down the path for my own 9.3x62! Hopefully it wont be too long of a road, I'd like to have it done by november. We shall see!

A 9.3 on a Springfield would be very nice, what are your plans for the rest?
What barrel length and contour?
What trigger and safety?
What are you doing about the stock?
Well you have the action now the fun begins with chasing down all the pieces and deciding on all the little details.
Good luck on your project!

it seems like the nine-three is getting quite popular with our american members.
just to set it straight, are you talking of a springfield 03 or a mauser m03?

good luck with your project, please keep us informed on the details

While I have nothing against the 9,3X62, I think you should build a .35 Whelen on that Springfield action. Mauser 98 actions are easy to find build a 9,3 on one of them. I know you will pretty much be duplicating performance of the .35 with a 9,3 or vice versa. I just don't see any harm in owning both calibers.

I have two very nice 03 Springfields done in .338-06 and .35 Whelen. Using the 03 action for a classic American hunting round just seem right to me. If you want to do somthing different that is fine as well.

If your 9,3 is done by November I'll be jealous as well.

well actually...the barreled action is in 35 Brown Whelen already, its a thought. However, I've got project #3 on backburner, and thats in 35 Sambar, so I'll be covered on the 35's....for now thumb

I'm shooting for a 22 or 23" barrel, with a remington style factory sporter contour. My smith is recomending a Timney trigger, he put one on my brothers '03 in .270 AI. Safety and stock are still yet to be decided upon! I'm also looking at a low power variable scope, like a 1.5 or 2-7. He recomended a burris that he put on a few 375's, but I really like the 1.5-7x32 Zeiss Conquest. I had a Zeiss on my old A-bolt and i LOVED that scope.

This will probably be finished before my 338 Fed project that I started oh....over a year ago lol. I was thinking about doing a .350 Rem Mag on my R700 SA, but the 'smith said he really wanted to build a 338 Fed, so he'll buy the reamer.

I was looking at some CZ24 24/47 rifles yesterday for about 130$ each, how do these actions rate, since we're on the subject?

I really don't know I have a VZ24 rifle in 8mm-06 which seems to be pretty good. You are real close to z1r and Snellstrom says he is the guy to talk to about Mauser actions, I'd shoot him a PM. Since you got the .35's covered think about a .375 Hawk/Scovill unless you got that caliber covered as well.

If I end up doing a 375 project, I kinda have my eye on the 375 Chatfield-Taylor! Seems like a great little cartridge, pitty it never became standard. I'd love to do that one in a BLR.

The Hawk line of cartridges DO intrigue me, I've spent many hours reading Fred's webpages. I really like the 264, 300 and 411's. I think a 411 Hawk would be a dandy rifle to play around with.

I'm not sure why you would need a 9.3 if you have that 35 Whelen Brown though?
I wanted to have a 35 Whelen on a Springfield since I was just a boy but then I ran into a couple deals that put me on the track of a 9.3 on a Mauser 98 and I ended up that way, now I'm wondering if the 35 Whelen is even necessary if I have the 9.3?
Conversely I see that if you have a 35 why would you need the 9.3?
Sometimes I realize that "need" and want are not far apart.
I surely wouldn't tear apart a 35 Whelen to make it a 9.3. I would just buy a 98 action and have both if need tells you to have both.

I have nothing against the Whelen at all, dont get me wrong. But its just not what turns my crank lol Th3 9.3 has been a dream for a couple years. Interstingly enough, the same day I decided to buy the action, someone needed the 35 Brown Whelen barrel, so two people will be happy out of 1 transaction. If it was just the standard WHelen....I'd have to think about it. But since its improved, that means much more expensive dies and such.
