Savage_99Anyone familiar with a Mauser M12?
The loose fit of a bolt in a military action was to reduce the chances of a jam should it get dirt in it.
The control round feed of manually operated bolt rifles is to reduce the chances of a jam from double feeding.
Plus they have a good machinery feel to me.

Reason enough to get a true Mauser '98, especially for the truly big-bores!

That's the rumor. I have 4 or 5 custom 98's built on military actions that are quite snug. The others- a little play. Others still went by the wayside, too loose. The first group mentioned were built on unused surplus actions. I have a couple Interarms Mark X customs built on new actions that are not any tighter than the best military based ones. On the M12 side of the conversation, the 60 degree bolt lift is what prompted me to pick one up. Being a M98aholic it felt a little weird although I really liked the quick bolt lift and the M70 'chester type safety. It's a different animal than the CRF 98's and feels almost toy-like. I bought just one (was going to buy 3). Classic Mauser? No. If it shoots well, I'll keep it.

customboltNice shooting Mr. Williams. I'd take under an inch with factory ammo. Have you tried any off the shelf ammo?

It shot factory Remington under an inch. Would make a good, low recoil load.
