Surfing the net looking for info on 140TSX loads for Sako Finnlight 7-08, I came across a poster who uses AR2208 which I foundout is mfg overseas and claims to be the equivelent of Varget, IMR 4064, AA2520. Anyone found this to be true?

Its made by Australian Defence Industries ( hence ADI ) in Benalla in Australia . Part of the Thules group of companies. AR2208 and others is sold as Hodgdon powders outside of Australia ________________________ Old enough to know better

Go to ADI Handloader Guide http://www.adi-limited.com/han...ders-guide/index.asp and bring up the Powder Equivalent and compare w/ the Hodgdon powder. Next look up a load on Adi and then check the Equivalent powder on Hodgdon w/ same load and bullet weight. The fps and pressure wil be the same. I called Hodgdon and asked who did the testing and got 5min of tap danceing, if you know what I trying to say. As far as I know Hodgdon is like Sears. They don't make anything they just buy it from the manufacture and package it and sell it. If its a stick powder it most likely came from ADI and if its ball it came from St Marks in Florida.

I use mostly AR 2208 in my Kimber 7mm08. I also use VV N160 with 160 gr TSX & Rem PSPCLs. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Not too sure on the pressure testing but I am pretty sure ADI have their own pressure gun. As to loads on the ADI bookm take some of them with a grain of salt as I know some used to be from shooters. But more importantly, in one ADI book the 375H&H loads were OTT (compressed and a lot more than most people loaded). I always cross reference the loads with other sources. .

Yes, Varget is identical to AR2208. Not just 'equivalent'. See here for the cross-reference: http://www.hodgdon.com/msds.html ADI do have their own pressure gun [at their Mulwala, NSW propellant/explosive factory; the Benalla ammo factory may also have one], but I don't know that the rifle pressure figures in their Handloader's Guide are from that one. Haven't checked the current edition. But in the previous one, there doesn't seem to be much pressure data from the ADI powders that aren't resold by Hodgdon [Bench Mark 1 and AP-100]. Yep, I'd suspect that manual still has a lot of untested shooter-supplied rifle loads in it. Cheers, Doug

One of the loads I was thinking of (that raised a few eyebrows) was the 270 or 300gn bullet in a 375H&H and about 82gns compressed of whatever powder we normally use, but I think we used 76gns. It dissapeared in the next version of the book and don't know if it has reared it's head again.

You set me on a research trail there, Nigel. I have ADI's data handouts/manuals back as far as '86 on hand here. Those compressed max loads for .375 H&H and AR2209 [83.0 for 270gn, and 81.5 for 300gn] first appeared in the ADI 3rd edition, of Nov 2000. And they're still in the current 5th edn. They have also appeared in later editions of Nick Harvey's book [7th edn]. Edit: AR2209 Max Loads for .375 H&H, older data ADI first edition [undated, but early '90's] and '86 leaflet: 78.0 for 270gn, and 75.0 for 300gn ADI 2nd edition, 1996: 78.0 for 270gn, and 77.0 for 300gn Cheers, Doug

Gadge Yep, that was it, the 3rd Edition. Now go back and post what they had in the 1st and 2nd Editions for the same powder / bullet weight. .

If you go to the link that Gadge shows and hit Ball Powder It brings up the equivalent St Marks name for the Hodgdon ball powders sold powders and Winchester powders.
