What do you think of the new models?

I like the fact that they are listed for lower prices.

The stainless pro shadow looks cool and so does the barrel on the shadow elite.

I also like that they are not all chambered for only WSM's either.

I've had three seperate smiths over the past six months complain about the current M70's being produced. All three of these guys hunt with numerous M70's also,so its not just bias.

What kind of complaints?

The only thing I have seen was on my first 300 ultra a mod 70 classic, that the brass really seemed to get scraped hard while chambering a round into the chamber. The top of the feed ramp was sharp.

I like the new models and I like the new synthetic stock design. I had a 300wsm in the synthetic but I wish they would offer a blue or a stainless (non fluted), controlled round feed, with the new synthetic. The new elite looks pretty neat though.
I'm not real crazy about the ventilated stocks...
All in all there's alot to choose from...

Anyone know if they put the 22/250 in the Black Shadow (I think that is what it is called), you know the light barrel plastic stock push feed that comes in the super shorts?

Thx

Mark I think you are talking about the super shadow. 22-250 is not in the super shadow but is in the new pro shadow http://www.winchesterguns.com/prodinfo/catalog/detail.a...type_id=982&cat=001C

Its $40 more than the supershadow.
Which looks like a super shadow with the overmolded stock.

That would be the ultimate shadow. Same stock non-fluted. like this one http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=42232064

Ditto on the scraped up brass in a Model 70 .300 WSM. Doesn't affect how it shoots (very well), though.

I just sent a brand new Model 70 Featherweight Stainless in 30-06 back to Winchester because of feeding problems. After the first round of a full magazine, the bolt would not "pick up" any of the other rounds in a "controlled" fashion. It acted much as a "push feed", and that is exactly what I didn't want.

I will be posting the outcome.

If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.

My M70 Classic is going back to the factory for a really badly inletted stock. In order to avoid having to ship a firearm, I even ordered a new stock from Browning (Winchester), and the new one was just as a bad.

Has anyone seen any of these new winchesters or gotten any word when they will be out? I asked the local Sportsmans Warehouse and the Salesman was unaware of the change in the lineup.

I looked at a couple Winchester Classic Stainless Rifles at Wal-Mart. First was a 375 H&H, the safety felt a little stiff compared to my .300 win mag so I asked to see another rifle to compare, when I tried to move the safety it would not even move off the safe position despite considerable effort. I pointed it out to the sales clerk and he just put it back into the display case. I feel for people that are not knowledgable enough to check things out and end up with that crap.
