These have been discussed here before, but I don't recall that anyone has shot (much less seen ) one yet.

I think elephantstopper is looking for the over/under version, which is here now and shows up on the gun auction sites frequently. The side-by-side version has been much delayed.

to be honest charles im curious about both.....

eea corp seems to have the guns for sale now,or is that just on their site?

there is also a dealer in europe....in finland. shipment to ffl dealers, can be well worthwhile sometimes chaps.

im in italy, but already mailed eea corp and they said they didnt have the 9.3x74r in stock, but didnt answer when i mailed to ask if they would ship a sxs in either 30-06 or 45-70.

what are the garret rounds for 45-70 like?? which of the above is a good hog calibre anyway?

thanks guys..........

To my knowledge, the side-by-side has been delayed and will be further delayed at least in the US by Remington's decision to pick up and re-brand some of these guns. This has been discussed many times and I have yet to see anyone who found one in stock for sale, at least in the States. The over/unders show up all the time on auction sites like this one but usually in .223, .308 or .30-06.

I do not know the availability in Italy. Hopefully the manufacturer or a dealer can tell you.

I shot my last hog with a 9.3x74R. The report is here.

I have not used the 45-70 or the Garrett ammunition but both should be fine unless the range is long.

hi charles.......

i mailed the distributor in finland also, and have no reply as yet.

that sounds awful, remington should make their own, rather than re-sell for perhaps a ridiculous price. its fair to say that we want them, because they're cheap. if they were'nt........hmm.

is there any chance of me knowing how much the pedersoli was? even though im in italy,i would like to have even the roughest idea ahead,as if its an awful lot more than the baikal,i wouldnt bother.

you could tell me by private mail too,if you prefer.

nice shooting on that hog,and happy to see your young'uns enjoying the hunt too!

well,if things come to the worse,i'll do some telephone work.......finland,then russia.

thanks friend........zac.

Several people here have had responses, so hopefully you will hear back.

I suspect the prices will go up, but maybe the warrranty work or fit and finish will as well.

The Pedersoli new is much more than the Baikal, although part of the cost here is due to the slide of the dollar against the Euro. You should probably go to their website and check with a local distributor for current pricing. I can dig out the US prices I was quoted if you like but they may not help. My rifle was purchased through an auction site and although used was in pretty good shape. I have seen the Pedersoli 45-70s go at auction in used but good condition from $1500-2000.

Thanks. I enjoy having the girls along, and we try to have fun.

Another option in an over/under is a used Tikka or Valmet. These are more than the Baikal but less than a side-by-side.

Good luck

thanks again charles.

went to their website, but i still reckon it'll be a bit pricey for me. i mean i suspect 3,000 euros or so. would prefer a bigger calibre for this sort of money, thats about $4,500........

anyway,i would prefer a 9.3 in a double, but was willing to accept the baikal sxs in 45-70 just to get a sxs double rifle! and i believe the 45-70 is a good hog calibre. 9.3 is more common here though,to my knowledge,as well as a little longer trajectory wise.

ok i'll check out tikka,thanks.

and what did the other folks hear back from the finland dealer???

i'll keep trying.........

thanks charles........zac.

Sorry -- I should have been more clear. People in the US heard back from either EAA (the importer) or Baikal. I'll see if I can find the information.

Edited -- I did a search and most people heard back from EAA (European American Armory -- www.eaacorp.com-- an importer/distributor). One of our members from Europe spoke with the Russians who indicated that the 9.3x74R version had not been put in mass production -- you can read the post here .

ok thanks charles.

in that case i'll try to get hold of the finnish distributor, who is listed on baikals site.

the tikka, and the valmet are both for sale, former at $1400 and latter at $1250........its not bad,but to be honest, they look like re-stocked baikals!!! what were you just saying about remington?Wink

hmm,we'll see. baikal have horrible stocks. including mine. iron work-was very good. not finished like a best, but very good.

ok,thanks again,cheers friend.......

Did they ever build an o/u? If so, I think I saw one in Wholesale Sports in Calgary yesterday. It was in 7-54R the guy said. It looked like another manufacturers gun, but I still can't think what it was called. So I asked him, and he said it was a Baikal. Their number is I think (403) 253-5566. Good luck.

I see. The O/U. Yes, I was thinking of the SXS!

Their over under rifle looks very similar to one that was built by Valmet I think.
I am currently restocking a Baikal over under shotgun. If the quality of the internal parts and lockup in the rifle are not better than what I'm seeing in this one I would speed up as I passed it by

Elephantstopper,

I looked into buying one of the EAA singleshots. I called a local dealer found from the EAA webbsite who in turn called EAA. Bottom line is you wont be seeing any of these rifles anymore unless it is one that has been previously aquired, that is until they start showing up in Wal-Mart as remingtons Spartan line.

The dealer I talked to said they are typical of russian manufacturing, not much to look at but otherwise well made.
