I am going to either buy a Tikka T3 or Vanguard in 30-06. I know that all things considered that an '06 don't kick like any magnum but it can whack ya pretty good at higher bullet weights and velocities, which brings me to my question. The Vanguard is about a 1 lb. heavier than the Tikka. Will this make a big difference in felt recoil off the bench? I do like to shoot. I know the weight will make a difference carrying in the field.
I'm not sure what the finish weight is for both rifles, but 1# either way is going to let you feel the recoil. For me, a .30-06 much lighter than 7 1/2# is going to kick abit w/ 180gr & up bullets. Stock design & your recoil tolerance will help you make your decision.

Eight pounds loaded with a sling is as light as I can go in a 30-06. All other things being equal, I'd get the Tikka because it's lighter. Use a target-weight scope in heavy steel rings like the Leupold QRW's to shoot off the bench, then switch to a fixed 2.5 or 4x in alloy Weavers when you hump the hills. Hope this helps, Okie John.
Buy the rifle that fits the best. Fit will determine more about felt recoil than a 1lb difference in weight. Plus you can always use a better recoil pad, past pad, etc. I have a colt light rifle in 30-06 that shoots great and is quite comfortable because of good stock design and despite it's 6lb weight.
