I am a dyed in the wool M70 fan, but have been a bit put off by the lack of progress in the re-intro of the "new" M70. Kimber 8400 looks great and handles well.

Which do you shoot and like?

I have a battery of pre 64 M70's along with other rifles. However I wanted even lighter rifles so I got some Kimbers including the super light 84M Montanas. They suit many kinds of hunting and while they have many of the features of the M70's that I demand they weigh far less.

The long action Kimber 8400 does not fit this mode as its a long heavy action.

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.

When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!

Do that with your optics.

I think the M70 Classic is the finest action ever built by Winchester/US Repeating Arms. While not important for the response to your post I think the M70 control push feed like the
Coyote and Stealth use are fantastic.

I had a collection of Pre '64 M70's and traded them for a collection of Browning FN Mauser rifles. I've been happy with that decision.

I've handled several Kimbers and think highly of them, but my choice hands-down is the M70 Classic over the Kimber. I have a prized M70 Classic in 375 Weatherby and a factory M70 Classic chambered in 7mm STW.

I also own and love both. If you desire lightweight then Kimber is the way to go; it's even lighter than the M70 Featherweight.

For me it's a coin toss. If I wanted stainless synthetic I would go with the Montana. If I wanted something pretty in wood I'd probably choose the Win Featherweight if it had nice wood. Lou

I've had about 10 pre 64's over the years. I like them very well. They are fine rifles. I have sold them all and own 5 Kimbers now. They all shoot better than all but one of the pre 64's and weigh a bunch less. The stocks are also light years ahead of anything Win. has ever made. Flame away but I really like what Kimber has done. I have not had one of the long action 8400's but if I didn't have a MK X 375HH worked over and in a custom stock I would have a tough time trying to decide between a M70 and a Capriva.

I like Kimbers, but that is because they fit and feel better to me.

I'm still looking for a pre 64 FWT in 270 Win. I will gladly add that to my safe when the opportunity arises.

I just can't get excited about the new Winchester's.

I now have winchester M-70 featherweights in
.257 Roberts, .260 Remington, .270 Winchester and .30-06....all are keepers...

The .270 is new from the Carolina's.....a very fine gun....the trigger is better than the former model but the muzzle crown (while functional) is Browning.....I only tolerate it!
