Would my old M98 action handle a 300WSM or even a remington short magnum ?

Have any here tried it ?
(it's a 6,5x55 today)

I have never tried it but don't see why it wouldn't work with a little alteration.

O.k., I'll bite. Now everyone will think I'm a troll.

Why? In this action lenght, you gain nothing. A .300 Win Mag should fit with minimum work, will be more versatile and just as accurate. The short mags are really more for short action rifles and the short case length will probably cause all sorts of feeding problems unless you install a magazine block.

I'm sure Redlander is right. The short magnums are a pain to get to work in a m98 and you really don't get anything that you couldn't have with less work.

Thanks for the reply's.
As i would guess, the short magnums are not right for the M98 action. So, i have decided to rechamber to 6,5-284 instead.

Btw: I already have a 300wm
