I'm new to this site and am very fond of Sako rifles. I found out, that Sako is now chambering the 75 stainless synthetic in 9.3x66. Looks to be a great cartridge. I'd like to try something different (by different I mean, have a different cartridge then all my friends that have 30/06 and 338 win mags) and the 9.3x66 looks like a winner. Does anyone have info on this round?

It is also chambered in the Sako Hunter. It uses the same case as the 9.3x62mm but slightly longer, how much I am not sure, and it basically gives 375 H&H performance with a .366 projectile. The Sako 2003 catalogue gives a velocity of 780 meters/second for a 286 grain projectile whatever that is in fps!!

It is a non belted round that has velocities of similar weight bullets very much like a 375H&H. It was introduced in 2002

Sako 9,3x66

It uses a number 3 Shell holder Huntington's apparently has dies for it.

For convenience sake, I think I'd go with a 9,3x62.

I think 780 m/s works out to be 2574 fps. Sounds prettty good to me. Huntingtons has all the dies and stuff for reloading and nosler has bullets available. Anyone know where to get the brass or if I can be made from something available? 06 brass would be to short, correct?

Has Sako started importing these into the US? Some of their listed calibers are not.

I emailed Stoeger in Canada (Sako importer for us) and they said they had the 9.3x66 in their warehouse. I'd imagen if it's available in Canada, you should be able to get it in the US as well.

There was an article about this cartridge in the latest issue of the Swedish gun magazine "Vapentidningen". After having read that I seriously question the usefulness of the 9.3x66 Sako.

For example, as a consequence of cramming the cartridge into a standard length magazine, the maximum OAL is limited, effectively handicapping the cartridge potential.

Second, the velocities from Sako seem to be quite optimistic (perhaps not too uncommon coming from the manufacturer).

It seems a 9.3x64 would be a "better" choice, and comparing the Sako cartridge to the incredible 375H&H seems a bit stupid to me. Making a magnum for the 9.3mm bullets is not a bad idea at all, but why not use the x64...?

I called Stoeger and was told that there is a promotion going on right now. If you buy a gun you get a pack of ammo for free. I was also told that they could get brass from Finland.

I'm very tempted to pick on up. If I buy 500 pieces of brass I'd be set for life I would say.
