[I brought this over from the optic's thread. I'm hoping with the more traffic here you gents can help me out]


I just got my 1923 Mauser 9.3X62 back from NECG after having them replace the claw mounts that have been missing since G.I bring back of WWII

Here's the deal. This is a Hella 2.3-7 mod.27L2 Tapered post w/crosshair. I figured out the focus locking screw no problem, but as NECG had this gun a year or so I don't recall there being an issue with power adj. (I bought the scope used) I can't get the power adjustment ring to turn, it feels like it's mechanicly locked at the lowest power.. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something that can be done wrong on something so simple??

On my older Kahles variable scopes you turn the whole rear objective to adjust the power. The focus is done by loosening the screw turning the rear of the objective till focused, then tighten the screw.
Then as stated above you turn the whole objective to change the power, not a "ring" like on most other scopes.

You might have a rail mount, but if you have scope rings:
If you have your rings too tight on the scope tube, you might be able to turn the whole rear objective and the internals will not move.

As you described the mechanicals is right on.. And as I remembered of turning the rear objective is what I recall and have been trying to do. The rear ring is clear up by the adj turrets so I don't see that being the problem.

I will remove the scope completely to see if that changes the symptoms.. If not, where can I send this scope for repair/tune-up??

Mike: Probably not what you wanna hear, but have you tried loosening the screws on the rear scopemount ring?
This is what I would try first.

Hey Mo Mike,

You didn't mention (or I'm too daft to have not picked it up) whether the scope is attched to the mounts with either rings or a rail?

If you've got rings then the power ring NOT turning is a definate indication of either the scope is out of alignment in the rings and therefore "bent" or too much ring pressure close to the joint of the occular bell to the main tube of the scope.

Since the power dial opeates another "tube" inside the scope that rotates inside the main tube if enough pressure is applied in this area it will force the two together to the point that turning will damage the scope.

I agree with asti - try loosening the rear ring. The issue with what you've got now is that if there was enough pressure applied the outer & inner tubes may have a sorta Crush/joined fit togehter and even upon loosening may be held too tightly together to move - if so it really does need to make a trip to the Kahles Service Center.
