I've got the major hankering for a CZ550 FS in 7x64 or 8x57 which are currently cataloged by CZ on their Europe website. http://www.czub.cz/index.php?p=32&idp=3&ids=10&idz=43&lang=en I'd also jump on a 7x57 which I understand was discontinued a few years back here in the US. CZ-USA does not list either of these two current CZ calibers. Is there anyway I could get one imported, buy it off the net and transfered to my local gunshop? Is there a GunBroker.EU?

First thing I'd do is call CZ USA and see if they will order one for youor recommend a distributor who would. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

The 7x64 was imported for a short time. I have one of them.

Ok, I've found a dealer lined up here in metro Atlanta and have decided that a 6.5x55 Swede or 308 will have to do. How well do these guns handle scope mounting? From the looks of the stock and drop at heel, it seems they're setup for the open sights. I would be wanting to put a modest scope on it, maybe a 2-7x32, but nothing larger than a 40mm objective. I've called the dealer and he has several in stock so I'm driving over there during lunch tomorrow. Hopefully he carries the scope bases as well as I understand they are specific to CZ.

These are great rifles. The 308 I've shot goes under an inch at 100 yds with 150 gr Remington Core-lokts. It is a handy size and still heavy enough to soak up a bit of recoil. Warne makes rings. Chances are you will need at least mediuns for the bolt handle to clear the scope. IMO the CZ is the best rifle for the money in its price range.

LD - I have a 9.3 X 62 in the 550FS and use Warne QD. rings/bases. They work extremly well, repeat is right on. The stock configuration is not "perfect" but have had no problem switching back and forth from scope to opens on a regular basis (practicing for Moz next year). I use a Davari 3 X 9 X 36 and a Lupy 1.75 X 6 with no problems, so your scope choice should be no problem. You will really like the 55FS, let me know how the 6.5 X 55 shoots. Does anyone know if someone makes a peep or aperature sight that will mount on the action of the CZ 550s? I have Williams sights mounted on one of my lever actions and this might be a suitable alternative to the scope

Why should they bother when new catalog lists both .270 and .30-06? The best caliber for 550FS is 9,3x62 followed by super popular 7,62x63. When one buys heavier rifle it might as well be chambered for a more powerful cartridge.

I believe New England Custom Guns offers a very nice peep sight for the CZ.

Let me be more helpful why should CZUSA import 7x64 and 8x57JS when both 6,90x64 and 7,62x63 are available from them.

Before you buy a CZ 550 FS, I'd suggest that you spend some time with 1. I love mannlicher stocked rifles and have dozens of them, but the CZ 550 FS is 1 of the worst handling/balanced mannlicher stocked rifle that I'd handled. If you can, I'd suggest handling a Husqvarna or Sako to feel what a well stocked, well balanced, mannlicher stocked rifle should feel like. Even the Interarms Mark X and Winchester 70 mannlichers are better than the CZs, despite not being in the same zip code with the Huskys and Sakos. Jeff

If you like quick handling rifles, check out the Ruger RSI. It's a tremendous value for the money. IMHO much nicer than the CZ. BTW I'm a big fan of CZ products. Tanzania in 2006! Had 141 posts on prior forum as citori3.

Good idea. Why bother with all these clunkers when one can have new Styr-Mannlicher M-Stutzen. These are the best factory rifles with "cane" stocks. PS. I like my $500 CZ550 9,3x62 clunker, but I'm partial to heavier rifles.
