It's a new F class blaster based on a 25 year old, left handed, Savage J Action.

It's got a 26" fluted, stainless, Savage barrel chambered in 243 with a 9.25" twist. The action was trued and re-timed by Sharp Shooter Supply and Fred allso custom built one of his LVT stocks to fit the detachable magazine action. I had him add the adjustable comb and the stock is built to ride the sandbags. I also have one of the SSS competition triggers set at 16 oz.

If I was to build a long range varminter, It'd look quite a bit like that one....Savage action and all!

Savage takes a second seat to no one when it comes to accuracy!

Funny story about functional and ugly Savages. I have a few, and was at the range this morning with my 7mm Mag and .308. Guy next to me has a nice .308 based on a Rem 700 action. New B&C stock, $1,000 scope, custome ammo.

My ugly Savage out shot his nice pretty gun. Luckly, the gentleman is the sort who will just laugh it off and even asked if I would trade. As neither of our wives would go for it, I declined.

You can have pretty and accurate rifles, but for fuction you can't beat a Savage.

People used to say "for the $$$ you can't beat a Savage...".
Now, people say "if you want the best trigger and out of the box accuracy it takes a L-O-T of $$$ to beat a Savage...".
Check the F Class records.

Fine looking rifle.

I haven't even shot it yet. I got it back from Sharp Shooter Supply Thursday evening but had a long range match Saturday morning and today is the grand daughter's 9th birthday party.

I'll probably use up the 95 grain SMKs that I have in the cupboard first. Some people tell me that the 105's will stabilize in the 9.25" twist barrel so I'll try them also for my 1,000 yard shooting.

For varmints, I'll try the 58 grain Hormady but I'm betting the 70 grain HPs will do better.

I shot it Sunday (30th) - Using the 95 grain SMK, the best groups were with H4350 and ran about 3/4 - 7/8 of an inch but both were showing some vertical stringing. I ran the loads right up to Hodgdon's max listed load but din't have any pressure signs.

I just loaded up some more test loads using H4831SC and will try to get out later this week and try them.

Yep,rifles are like women: Some choose the ugly ones that can cook; others choose the good looking ones that can't cook - it's a little tougher to find both in the same package.
