Where is the best place to pick up CRF 30-06 actions at a decent price? I really want a .35 Whelen and factory produced models are really not readily available, so I decided to build one. I just wanted to know where the best place was to look for actions.

IMO the best price is a used M-70 classic in any to the .30-06 family of cartridges. Go to gun shows and find a used one.....shouldn't be hard.

You can also just buy a new one too,,,,,,and remove the barrel.

IMO that's less costly than remodeling a M98 mauser or heavens forbid...reworking an enfield P-17

There's a few J C Higgens mausers out there too and they're excellent actions but not always easy to find.

If you are not proud, the place to look is Charles Daly Mauser actions.....CRF and in the .30-06 class.....you can get one for about $300 or so.

I think the path of least resistance to build a quality 35 whelen is to start with an older interarms mark x. It's a simple rebarrel job and you can recoup some of your money by selling the take off barrel. You should be able to find a decent Mark x for around $350.

There is one already made in the classifieds. It is on an Interarms if memory serves.

If all you want is an action, the best price will come froma decent used .270, 06, etc. Pick your poison, M700 M70 or M77. Mausers are nice but you'll have a lot more money in one when you're done. A commercial Mauser like the Mrk X is also an atractive alternate.

schromf, I just did and it's a beauty. Including the scope it's a steal but the barrel is too heavy for my likes. The wood is great and with a little checkering this is a real gem.

I see he's willing to listen to offers.....

Here it is. For this price you could part it out and rebuild it. I bet you could Ebay everything but the action and have less than $300 in it. BUT why just take it home and be the envy of the niehborhood.

If I recall correctly, the interams mauser action and the charles daly action are basically the same.

I was looking on the charles daly site and their standard length mauser action weighes 46oz. I think the winchester action is lighter.
