Guys,

Anybody know approx velocity for the Remington 150 CoreLokt load for the 300 Savage? My 300 just loves that load but my chronograph is out of operation right now. My guess is about 2,500 fps.

Mark

Agree . . . 2500 to 2550 would be my guess.

Using that bullet and a Rem Classic and Varget, I got a tad over 2600.

Aim for the exit hole

As I think about this, I guess I wonder what barrel length we're talking about. I shoot a Savage 99F, with a barrel length of 22 inches.

My first post (2500 - 2550 fps) was based on a handload I'd worked up for that rifle, not a factory load. So I may have been way, way off base.

Since I believe the issue is a specific factory load (am I wrong?), I'd like to know what velocity that factory load measures over a chronograph in whatever barrel length we're talking about.

I can touch 2,700 FPS with the 150 Hornady Spirepoint in my Model 99 300 Savage but the accuracy is not there nor with any handload I've tried so far. This Remington factory load prints 5 bullet in 1.5" at 100 yards which is outstanding in my book for 60 + year lever gun.

Anybody shot any game with this factory load. My assumption is that at the 300 Savage's moderate velocities that it will work nicely on caribou/deer/black bear size animals.
