I have never been real good at picking just a Bare Bones battery of 4. I have: Custom 10/22 Sako 30-06 Kimber 375 H&H CZ 550 .458 Lott I was looking in the safe and realized I don’t have anything between 30-06 and 375 H&H. Then I thought well if the 06 can’t getter done the bigger ones can. After going through three pages of postings there seems to be only one person who chose a 7 X 57!!! roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

1. 257 Wby 2. 30-06 3. 338-378 Wby 4. 460 Wby Most of these will overlap each other which was a consideration in having a backup... The big 5 on the other hand . . well you just need two big rifles ... Ken.... "The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn't so. I have one but it isn't finished yet. I agree it would make a great choise for a medium bore. If there was a reason for a bare-bones battery you wouldn't be building one to hunt the world over. Assuming you had a 1911, 22 semi-auto and SxS 12g.... Off the shelf I like the XR-100 22-250, M70 fwt 6.5 Swede, M70 338 WM and 416 Rigby. Otherwise it might be the XR-100 22-250 AI, M70 6.5x375 Ruger x 2.15", M70 358x404 and CZ550 470 Mbogo. Actually, it would be more about rifle than cartridge. 1) A tight single shot with heavy barrel in: 223, 22-250, 220 Swift, 223 WSSM 2) A CRF (Mauser, M70, M77) with 24" tube in: Swede, 7x57, 7-08, 308, 270, 280, 30-06, 6.5 RM, 264, 7mm RM, 300 3) Same rifle as #2, 26" bbl (except the first three) in: 280, 30-06, 338-06, 7mm RM, 300 WM, 338 WM, 340, 358 Norma, STA, 375 H&H, 300-375 RUM 4) M70 or CZ550, P14 if nec. in: 416 RM, Rigby, Lott, Mbogo, 500 Wby/Jeffery/505, etc OR a sweet double in 470
