I saw a Winchester m760 in a gun shop today, I don't remember ever seeing one of these before.
Kind of resembles a Savage 110 in quality.

Are these rifles of any value? Anyone have any firsthand knowledge?

The reaso n I'm asking, is the rifle is in almost unused condition and I can buy it for CHEAP, CHEAP!
I thought it might make a decent "beater" for the pickup rack.

BTW, The same shop had a Remington 788/.44mag as well.

TIA, for any info

I've owned/used one now for almost 16 years. Very reliable, fast action. Accuracy is very good. Gun can easily do 1.5" groups, and sometimes better
with Federal Classic ammo. I would recommend you snatch it.

Thanks for the reply.
I checked the rifle pretty well, the action is very smooth, the barrel is free floated, trigger is,IMO, good+ and the bore looks brand new.

I think I will grab it, I can get it out the door for $200.00.

Terry8MM,
My very first rifle in 1975 was a Win model 670 in 30-06. I shot thousands of Speer 110 gr varminter bullets through it as well as Speer 165 gr boat tails. Later when the Nosler 165 gr balistic tip became available, I found it to be very accurate also.
Often after a long day of shooting ground squirrels, we would distribute the empty pop cans over a hillside, hop into the truck and drive to the next ridge top, usually between 300 and 400 yd away. We then took turns shooting one can at a time, from the prone position sans mats or pads. The first to miss a pop can had to buy beer for every one that evening. And of course we picked up all the litter afterward.
I also was carrying a Ruger 77 in 25-06 and a Weatherby Deluxe Varmintmaster in 22-250 at that time, but I always grabbed that inexpensive Win 670 w/ 165 gr bullets at the end of the day. (and I never did have to pay for the beer)
Idaho regs allow us to kill grouse with our rifles during deer season. I was always able to supply camp with grouse by shooting their heads off. The longest shot I ever took at grouse was eighty yd, cut the neck right off of him.
We also used to ride dirt bikes in the forest a lot. I would strap a saddle scabbard to the fork on my Honda and take the 30-06 along. I broke two stocks in five years by tipping the bike over on the trail. Factory replacements were only about fifty dollars for the birch stock in those days.
Then I got married and had to sell my rifles to cover expenses. But a few years later when funds were available again I was able to buy another Win 670 in 30-06. It was every bit as accurate as the first and even shot the same loads.
I sold that Win 670 just over a year ago for $200 to a friend just because I had become bored with the 30-06 cartridge (bought a Ruger #1 7MMSTW).
$200 is a very fair price for this rifle and I would predict very good hunting accuracy with it. And it doesn't hurt your feelings so badly if you put a scratch on that stained birch stock. Not as it would with a new Classic with pretty walnut on it. I know about that as well. My son at the age of thirteen got his horse tangled with a tree and snapped the buttstock off of a brand new model 70 Classic in 264. I promise, that walnut cost a lot more than fifty bucks.
I would reccomend the purchase of this rifle to anybody wanting a dependable and accurate hunting rifle. I always felt a lot better bragging about an inexpensive, plain looking rifle that would group well than I did a pretty rifle that wouldn't group.
I am surprised that we do not hear a lot more about this rifle model on these boards. I find it, as well as the Win model 70 Ranger which replaced it, very comparable to the Rem 700 ADL. The ADL gets bragged about all the time.
If you get this rifle, you might try 60 gr of H4831 behind a Nosler 165 gr Balistic Tip, with a CCI 250 primer. Both of mine really liked this load with any case I tried including military.
