Paolo9,5x73: Some out there are so nicely finished and handy that sporterising is not needed. One example is 7x57 short cavalry carbine made by Mauser Werke for Chile in the thirties. The fit and finish is exceptional right down to Mauser monogram. It would put many modern factory rifles to shame.

+1

Boxhead, good snag.

Paolo, I owned one of those Chilean cavalry carbines back in the 80s and they are everything you said plus some. Nicest military mauser I've ever seen. I bought it to cut down into a sporter and then couldn't bear to touch it. It even came with the original factory target!

Since I am a hunter/shooter and not a collector, I eventually found someone that wanted it for what it was and sold it. I often think about that little carbine and sorta wish I had it back.
