I was running the racks of used guns at a local store yesterday and came across 8 Swedish Rifles with commercial Mauser 98 style actions. Anybody know anything about these ty[e of Rifles. They had a small tab in place of the normal mauser bolt release,. KJK

Put this into Gunsmithing since it is not about a caliber at all. Swedish HVA have a small tab bolt release; Sweden never made a 98 Mauser. Some Browning FN 98s also used a flat spring like release. I have both of these actions here but I can't find the FN now. Here is the Husky, missing the release but you can see the slot. Not a 98.

Here is the flat one used by Browning and some Herters Mausers had it too. Way back in the 60s before you kids were born. These are 98 Mauser design actions

Well the ones I’ve had were excellent actions. If I was into building a light mountain rifle on a standard length action that would be my personal choice. Roger ___________________________ I'm a trophy hunter - until something better comes along. *we band of 45-70ers*

Yes of course the HVA action is a good one. They do not have the inner receiver reinforcement/barrel torque ring like the 98. Husqvarna didn't think it was necessary. They are not really "light weight" though. Lots of iron in them. Bottom metal is one ounce lighter than all milled kind. Too late now.

Just ask the same question in the Gunsmith forum. You may get a couple more specialist readers.

It was a trick question; the only difference is that I rarely read this section and I read the gunsmithing one every day.
