Does anyone have knowledge/ experience with barrel length vs. powder burn,velocity etc.with standard 35 whelan?

22" seems to be a happy medium for speed and being handy. I've had 24" barrels on the Whelen but never saw the "need" for one. If you're considering shorter such as 20" you should really consider the Ackley Improved version. I get 2600 fps easily with 225 grain A-frames. There is absolutely nothing you couldn't tackle with that setup and much handier.

Youcan expect somewhere between 25-30 fps between 20 and 26 inch bbl, at the speeds we're talking.
Someone hear has a 25"bbl Whelen, and it does move noticably faster than the 22" version. A definite consideration if you're looking for that "extra 100 fps."
Thing is, the Whelen is really great at what it does with a short barrel. You need a very specific set of criteria to want a long-barreled Whelen. Like maybe a Browning lever action with 28" octagon, for instance! [Hmmm....]
