I downloaded Federals new ballistic tables and found that the Whelen (.225 gr. TBBC) launch speed had been backed down to 2500ft./sec. The Whelen was advertised to have a muzzle velocity of 2600ft./sec. in earlier Federal tables, but on the ammunition box it has always been listed as having a velocity of 2500ft./sec. Both of the Whelens (one 22 and the other 24) that I have shot over a chronograph with this ammunition averaged just slightly over 2600ft./sec. CP.

I load my own, and 2600fps is easy with a 225gr in my Whelen.

That is interesting. I have three boxes of the Federal 225 tbbc and they all list 2600fps however they clock at close to 2700fps out of my Whelen. I must have a fast barrel. I hope that they did not screw up this fine load. [Frown]
