I've had a couple of long action Sako rifles that were very accurate, but absolute pigs to carry. There are several Fiberclass Sakos for sale on GA. Is the Fiberclass any lighter than the equivalent wood stocked model? Thanks, Stoney

I use and really like both. Though I have never weighed them, I am sure there is a small difference; however it's not enough for me to chose one over the other. I use the Fiberclass stocked rifles if I am going to hunt rough terain or inclimate weather. I would chose the Fiberclass over wood because they're not as common and can be more desirable. I don't know if you like 30-06, but there's a Fiberclass for $835 with Rogard finish that's a good deal. I've been looking at it for a month or so. If I did buy it, it would become a 35 Whelen or 6.5-06.

Hey Stoneybrooke

I have had 2 Stainless Synthetic Sakos, a 270 and a 300 win mag. I do not like their synthetic stocks. They seem long and are heavy and when at the bench they are flexible. You can push with your hand and watch the reticle move. The one on the 270 broke at the hand grip and now wears a MacMillan stock which is excellent but expensive. I traded the 300 win mag off for a 300 Mato which has a stiff HS Precision stock.

The Fiber class sakos came with McMillan stocks the best composites in the buisness.............................................they are not to be compared with the milk jugs that come on the 75 series sako's, I owned a fiberclass in 7mm rem mag and regret to this day that I sold it and thats going on 10-11 years ago now.

Stoneybroke!

I have an old American catalogue from Stoeger and the Hunter model and the Fiberclass both weigh the same. 7 1/4 lbs. with the AV action with 22" barrel. Calibers 25-06 to 300 WBY MAG.
The AV with 338 WM, 9,3x62 and 375 H&H weighs 7 3/4 lbs. and has 24" barrels.

But to confuse us a bit more!!

The European models were a bit different. According to a Swedish catalogue from 1986 (The first year SAKO made the Fiberclass) all AV actions had 22" barrels and the weight was 7 1/4 lbs up to 300 Win Mag and 7 1/2 for the 338Win Mag & the 375 H&H.

In a Finnish catalogue I have found other lengths and weights so SAKO hasn´t made it easy!!

I am the proud owner of 3 (maybe 4 soon!!) Fiberclass rifles and I can truly recomend them.
The best stock on the planet paired with the best action and barrels!!
Cant´t go wrong there!

They are not that easy to find but the market in the US is much bigger than here in Scandinavia. If it wasn´t such a fuss to export rifles from the US I would have bought that 7mm Rem Mag at Gunsamerica.com long ago.
NIB 1400 USD it´s a bargain. Shame it should be so expensive to ship overseas.

Jimbo, the weights listed on factory specs for rifles are about as accurate as you get when polling a group of women about their weights.

As with women, pick a rifle that feels right to you after close and intimate examination, regardless of what someone claims it weighs!

The listed weights of Sako rifles have been a bit of a joke. A mate of mine has a wood/blue Battue in 7mm-08 which is over 9lbs with Sako mounts and a Leupy 1-4x
However, my Finnlight is, as they claim, 6.25 lbs, with the same mounts and a 1.75-6x scope it weighs 7.25lbs. Smiler
The good thing about both rifles is that they shoot tight groups. clap

Of course the weight is different on each rifle!
My point was to give a rough estimate on these models.

My Fiberclass in 6,5x55 and 30-06 are really close to the Factory specs but my .375 is a bit heavier because of the Douglas barrel.

Personally I like a heavy rifle!!
When it comes to women? Go figure!!

If it helps, I recently sold a take-off Sako Fiberclass stock and the buyer needed the exact weight before committing, it was 2lbs 2 oz with a magnum barrel channel

If you want a light SAKO, try a Finnlite. They shoot just as well as the heavier ones..................DJ
