Im going to use the 180 gr NP in my 300 WM for elk this year. Anybody have any accurate load data they can share? I'd like to get 3000 fps. Im considering R22 and H1000 right now for powder but I'm open to suggestion.

There are other posts on this topic in other forums on this website. My accuracy load is 73 grains of RL22 with the 180gr. Nosler Partitions. I have no idea what the velocity is.
I use the same load in my Tikka and my Win. Peter.

Rl 22 and IMR 4831 are both very good powders in the 300 Win with 180 gr bullets. Max load with Rl 22 will be in the 73 to 74 grs. Start at 68 or 69 grs and work up carefully.Imr 4831 max will be a grain or two less. start about 67 or 68 grs. Choose whichever load groups best in your rifle.

You may want to give IMR7828 a run. It will give great velocity with the 180s.

H4831 is a great powder with 180s as well but, you may only hit 2950-2975 depending on the bbl.

Good Luck

I have a load for YOU,elkhunter! Don't know how much I used for this, but according to my Nosler manual a max charge of 75.5 grains should give you 3118fps.I think I used the same load for this group at 200yds.

MY Model 70 loves IMR 4831 under a Nosler 180. Near-max loads will put you over 3000 fps.

Accuracy is excellent in my rifle.

Good shooting,

What does well in one gun may provide abysmal accuracy in another, just as one gun my digest a load without any pressure problems, where the same load blows primers in another. That's why handloaders customize their loads to each individual rifle.

That said, powders like the 4831's, IMR 7828, RL 22, RL 25, N 165, etc. are all in the proper burning range for your .300 Winchester Magnum. Some barrels are "faster" than others, but you should be able to safely acheive 3000 fps with your Nosler Partion, and some will go as high as 3100 (velocity claims above this are usually the result of the shooter being ignorant of the actual velocity or disrespecting reasonble pressure limitations and being willing to discard brass after a couple of firings.) My own gun settles in nicely at 3030 fps with a load of surplus 4831 with the NP.

The 180 Nosler is a great elk and medium-heavy game bullet. Don't sweat the last fps of velocity. My son's .30-06 with the same bullet kills elk just as effectively and just as far with its 2800 fps muzzle velocity.

In my .300 Win Mags I have found the following load is excellent using the 180 Gr. Nosler Partitions: 71.5 Gr of IMR 4350. Great accuracy in 3 different rifles and velocity in excess of 3150 fps.

I used 75-77grs of RL-22 in more than 1/2 a dozen different 300 Win Mags with Excellent accuracy and velocity. In a 26" barrel velocity will usually be just over 3100fps and right at it in 24" barrels. You can find this load listed by a couple different pressure tested loading manuals........................DJ

I have done well loading the 300 with RL-22 and IMR-7828. I would think H-100 would be good as might RL-19...tj3006

I to tried 71.5 gr. IMR4350 with 180 grain Hornady spire points. Got one ragged hole at 100! Have had terrible experiences on game with the Nosler partitions however, and will never again foul one of my rifle barrels with them.
