I think there have been some posts about what the gun makers are going to offer in 2006 for the 100th anniversary of the '06. Can you refresh on which ones have actually announced what the special offerings will be. links to press releases or new catalog release would be appreciated. Thanks Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

I had heard that Remington was planning a 7600 model similar to what they did with the Larry Benoit special a few years back, but I haven't heard anymore yet.

Call me a boring old fart if you must but having looked at what Dakota and Remington have to offer I would not buy either. The Dakota is not a firearm it's an investment and you could buy a much better rifle for the same ammount of coin. The Remington is simply ghastly. Talking of investment were Ruger to do a 100th year special on the now defunct model 77 Express rifle, which looked like a scaled down version of the magnum, then I think it would sell quite well. But as I said, I'm a BOF, what do I know? Copula ergo sum

I daughter just recived a Ruger MII stainless Laminate in 30-06. I glass bedded it and free floated the barrel it well put 3 shots in a inch. Rugers are one of the best buys on the market.

While Remington has stated they are ending their series of classics I'm betting they'll go one more year just for the .30-06.....if they do I'm also betting they'll be unable to keep up with their orders. This is a fine tribute to a grand old cartridge.....but what ta hell do I know. I agree that the Maple stocked pump gun isn't going to attract a lot of attention from the nostalgia group. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I talked to one of the Remington reps at the NRA show in Houston last spring. He said that the 308 in 2005 was definately the last Classic. I suggested that a 30/06 in '06 might be a good move. He said they had considered the idea and rejected it. I think they are brain dead...

Ask those Remington Reps why they stopped production of the 788 sometime. The responses I recieved convinced me they suffer from "Brainius Deaderitis" at Remington. ______________________________ Well, they really aren't debates... more like horse and pony shows... without the pony... just the whores. 1955, Top tax rate, 92%... unemployment, 4%. I think Remington already did the Classic in .30-06. It's listed here: Past Model 700 Classic Rifles http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/700clpst.htm Maybe they didn't want to repeat chamberings. -Bob F.

I suspect that you're right. But I still don't understand the rationale. Why would you not produce a rifle that would (IMO) sell well, just because you discontined that model 25 yeasrs ago. I must be missing something.

Remington did the 30-06 in the Classic before they began to offer them as a one caliber per year offering. I owned one back in the 1970s and wish I had it back.

That 7600 is one butt ugly gun. I've seen far more attractive canoe paddles. Yuk!
