I have H414, Varget, and H4350 on hand. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Mike My rifle likes W760 with bullets in the 200 to 225 gr range. I would suggest starting with your H414 since it is pretty much the same powder.

Mike I have not worked with the TSX 210 very much. My favorite load for the .338-06 is 60gr. of H5350 under the 210gr. VLC. I was fortunate enough to purchase several boxes before they were discontinued. However back to the question at hand. I found that 58.0gr. of H4350 was starting to flatten primers during the heat of August in the Las Vegas area. During the winter they might be o.k. The accuracy was acceptable, but the velocity was quite a was down from the loads for the VLC load. E-Mail me if you would like more information.

Mike, My best load is 56gr IMR4064 with the TSX 210 bullet. The last group I shot was 1/2", but that was exceptional! Mostly 1" or slightly less. I am just not that good(at 80) Be sure to start lower. I have three of these rifles and in the other two this load pushes somewhat. I really like the .338-06 and used them for elk hunting in N.M. The last on was built by AHR and is a beauty-wish I could show pictures. The small group is an FN Mauser with an A & B barrel, a MK X with a Krieger barrel and Wayne put a McGowan barrel on the last. Now am too old to go elk hunting anymare. IMR 4350 was accurate along with Varget, but after finding a good load, I quit. Still shoot them a lot though. If you need anymore info, let me know. Mike I have a 338-06AI. I shoot the 210gr Scirocco. 61.0gr of RL17 shoots under an inch traveling through the chronograph at 2850fps. If you would like more info let me know. Good luck.

I always got my best velocity and accuracy with the med burners..IMR-4320 was always best with IMR-4064 a distant second....I don't recall the grainage as its been some time..I always liked the caliber until the .338 Win. came out and I abandoned my champion (338-06) Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

PO Ackley played with the 333 cal on a 06 case but I thought the old 33 Win was the only 338 cal prior to the 338 Win coming along./QUOTE]

I use 53.5 grains of RL-15. I only get 2680 FPS, but the groups are .5" at 100 yards. Maybe not be the fastest, but I have killed black bears, moose, and sheep with the load. Nothing has taken more more then a few steps.

Snowman, The .338 was on the market when I built my .338-06, I just didn't have one and didn't switch for a few years later when I traded Scott McCracken out of his Jack Haugh .338.. I settled on the 210 Nosler in the 338-06 and never had any reason to change, it killed elk with authority, even way out yonder at 300 yards and maybe 400 on one one occasion..I used IMR-4320 and got 2800 FPS plus a tad as I recall. Another good elk load used by a lot of guys around here is the 250 gr. Sierra BTSP at about the same speed..The only down side I ever saw with the 338-06 was its velocity with the 250 and 300 gr. bullets, and not sure that's actually a down side, but I was happier with the .338 Win. and its still one of all time favorite elk cartridges.
