| Made it out to the range last night.Shot three 3 shot groups to fireform the cases made from 458 Win brass. All were under an inch @ 100 yds and one group was 5/8" with the 270 gr Speer. Kind of a shame those bullets are supposed to come apart at top velocity in the 9.3x64 with the way they group.Might have to stick one of them into a blackbear this fall just to find out for myself. Hey Dan, you gotta build one of these! Yea hunting fever is setting in.Nine more days til moose season but who's counting. |

| Sounds great,Ralf has done a few rifles for me,they have all been good shooters. He did a 9.3x64 up for me a couple of years ago, mauser action,22" stainless barrel, butler creek synthetic stock.Totally flattened a bull moose last year 286gr partition@ 2540fps.Let me know what sort of velosity you get with yours?I've been told 2650fps is possible with the 286gr,I can't reach that. |

| Had a chance to do a little more load developement using 270 gr speer and 250 gr Noslers.Powders tried so far are H4895,IMR 4320,W760 an 47N(surplus powder sold by ammomart between 4320 & 4350 in burning speed). I've tried RWS brass and cases made from Win 458 brass. The 458 brass has 2-3 grs less capacity than the rws. any of the above combiations will group 3 shots under an inch @ 100 yds and around 1 1/2 inches @ 200. 4895 and4320 produce the tightest groups with the 250 Noslers and 4320 & 47N are the best with the 270 Speers. Strangest thing about this is the point of impact is about 18 inches higher with the Nosler bullet compared to the Speer.Has anyone else experienced this spread?? |

| Snowman, wide spreads are not uncommon in many rifles between different loads, each gun is an enity unto itself....
I settled on 4320 and RL-15 for the 9.3x64..I do know that the 270 Speer will come apart in the 9.3x62 most of the time....I like the Nosler partition and the Bal. tip...One of my all time favorite loads is the 320 Gr. Woodleigh RN at about 2450 FPS...
So, I suppose you turned the belt off in a lathe on the 458's...I have done that with 375's but I also found case capacity suffered a great deal and it is a pain...RWS is the best brass in the world IMO... |

| Thanks Ray I have seen many rifles that would shoot different bullets 6 or inches apart. Just never seen one that shot 18" apart.Yes I turned the belts off of 458 brass, rebated the rim and recut the extractor groove using a shell holder as a go gauge. It is a pain making cases but I had to satisfy myself that I could make useable cases for the 9.3x64 from something readily availible. As long as I can obtain RWS brass that will be the brass of choice.I was using the Speer bullets for fireforming because they were cheap and availible. 9.3 cal bullets are not that common in Canada |
