If you like plastic inlays, getting kicked in the head and your ears blown out then it's for you.

Also if you like throwing 180 gr bullets at 3200 fps in a rifle you can use for anything smaller then cape buff, it's for you. - Dan

I love the 300 wby (I've owned two). IMHO, all the deer, mt. goats, blk. bear, & elk that I've taken with calibers such as 30-06, .270 etc, would have been "more dead" if I'd shot them with the 300 wby. JimF

Great caliber and truly a classic in the modern era of worldwide hunting. My favorite cartridge for use anywhere on anything. I skipped the inlays and muzzle brakes.

The .300 Weatherby is a world class all 'round outstanding catridge period. That doesn't mean there are not others and it doesn't mean non magnums are no good, etc. Those who don't like its recoil can use something else and should. It may not always be necessary to throw 180 grains 3200 fps, but sometimes it is really useful!

I can remember years ago the Tx hill country hunting camp we visited every year as guest. When I was about 7 or 8, a guest brought his 300 wthby and I remember all the discussion about the lethality of it. I remember him sighting it in and the stitches he had to go get. Ever since then I knew that one day I would own a 300 wthby and I would be a real man.

If you don't like the recoil and the blast of the 300WM then that's why there is a 300 Winchester. It's a simple matter of more energy down range, not a test of manhood. (Although next to my friend's 378, it's a pussycat.)

quote:ECHO !!! I will get mine soon. Recoil? Relax and enjoy it like old Elmer said If you have a "china shoulder" it isn't anything for you and forget the other funny cartridges too Peformance comes at a price / JOHAN

avid: Do you own a 300 wby? or are you just considering it?? If you own one, you know your answer (it's either too much for you, or it isn't). You don't need somebody else to justify it. BTW: I've owned two, both wby #2 contour, and it's more recoil than I choose to deal with. I CAN deal with it, I just don't want to. If you are considering one, that's different. Many of the replies here have had a similar tone (I'll paraphrase) "If you are wimp with a glass shoulder, you should just put on a skirt and buy something lesser" Remember these are replies from maybe six guys who own 300's and therefore (defacto) are going to think that it's right up there with sliced bread. So....if you are concerned enough about recoil to ask this question, you might want to consider the "why" of a 300. What do you have now? And what do you want the next rifle to do better? If your'e really (NOT) concerned about recoil, (OR) you already have a 300 something or other, then the question is pointless. JimF [ 09-05-2002, 02:32: Message edited by: JimF ]
