OK,I know I will lose some and dont mind, but if I cut if from 26" to say 24" (or even 23"),do any of you have a More ACCURATE idea of what the loss will really be? (I just dont like long barrels on my hunting rifles) and,it will probably never see a over 300 yds shot)

Thanks Guys!

StonecreekYou'll still have more velocity than a .375 H&H with that length barrel.
However, if you cut the barrel back signficantly, you might have a greater concern over
hearing loss than velocity loss. The already substantial muzzle blast will be increased and will be moved three inches closer to your ear.

nordrsetaIf handy is more important than velocity I say sell the RUM and buy a 375 Ruger.

I agree with this. You have a cartridge that requires an extra-long action and an extra-long barrel to accommodate its length and powder capacity. Perhaps you are trying to make it into something it isn't supposed to be?

KSTEPHENSbarrel length doesnt dictate accuracy.
wien iron sights were moved from the reciver to the mid barrel, barrels were lengthened to allow for longer distance between the sights, allowing shooter to hit more consitantly.
i shoot alot of short rifles that can hold up with long barrel tubes anyday.
the answer is a 376 steyr.

gumboot458.........Kid ,.,. I,ve done a bunch of studying lately and I think for the type of cartridge the 375 RUM is it will loose 35 or so FPS per inch ...But it may be only 25 ...........

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

jeffeossoat the same barrel contour, a shorter barrel is stiffer, and may be more accurate, if it has a good crown.
Ask yourself if you can "loose 200fps" .. and if that's okay, then cut it off and be happy that you only lost 125-150 ...
But, a short barreled rum is going to burn ALOT of powder outside the barrel...
I solved that issue with the steyr, but a ruger would do it, as well

KSTEPHENSso from 26" to 23" your gonna lose 100 FPS on the high end.
how is slower less accurate?
accurate is the ability to hit what your aiming at consistantly.
accurate isnt a flat trajectory.
i belive you can adjust your loss by the powders you choose.

Dude! You have deep pockets, just go for it. A straight cut, perfect crown and try it out.
The only thing I'd be concerned about is the fact it is a high intensity cart! Shorter the barrel, the more painful the BOOM!

SAFARIKIDHmmm, alot of good input fellas!Thanks!...I think I will get the titanium ax out and whack er' off!

...I was going to use if for a really long range rig with a big scope, but after looking at ballistics of better cartridges,I am going for another ,such as a 7mm Mega or a 338-378 for that now!
Yes,I do have deep pockets, but they have holes in them and are now empty! lol!

KSTEPHENSone of my favorite rifles i have ever owned was a syn stocked sako AV 375 H&H w/ a factory 18.5".
had steyr never come out w/ the 376 i'd still have her.

MTMChop it at where ever you like. It'll still be plenty fast and it'll handle way better. Muzzle blast is a good thing.
