I am hunting little deer in heavy timber in my area, so I am looking for .35 Remington equivalent Loads for my .35 Whelen. I am thinking a 180- or 200-grain bullet at around 2,000 fps. Want to share your recipes?

Dave

you could also look at the speer 220 flat sp if you have a speer manual you are good to go if not tell me what powders you have and I can post what speer has listed in the # 13 manual for that powder if it is listed.

I have some loads with Blue Dot and the Remington 180 grain .357 Hollow points.
I also killed a deer with that bullet and a maximum charge of WC846 (like BL-C2.) It was a 100 yard shot through the lungs, exited, deer dropped.

This data is for the .350 Rem Mag - you may want to check other Speer Manual's for Whelen data.

180 gr. Speer Flat Nose
760 Powder: 61.0 Gr.
2206 fps.

RE7: 47.0 gr.
2329 fps.

748: 58 gr.
2461 fps.

(PS: The Whelen and .350 RMag are close enough - IMO that for light loads the data would represent a reasonable starting point for light load dev.)

From the Hornady 3rd edition:

200gr. Horn RN:
H4198: 40.0gr.
IMR 3031: 45.9gr.
H4895: 48.8gr
IMR 4064 49.3 gr.
2300fps

Good Luck!

Regards,

Robert

I duplicated a mild 358 Winchester load for my hunting. 200 grain Hornady Spire point at 2500 fps. I used a starting load of AA2520, very acccurate and moderate recoil.

Another vote for 54 grains of 3031 and 200 grain Hornady's. Punches a single whole at one hundred when I'm having good day in my Ruger.

I’ve loaded the 35 Whelen using the 200 Grain Hornady #3510 with light loads of reloader 15 but it’s still a Whelen though it’s much better on the shoulder then the Round Nose #3525 after many rounds. "Try the 200 grain round nose in timber"

Deer: I’m so confident in the power of the 35Whelen that I would shoot thought his ass to hit his heart if that was the only shot I could get….Let alone worry about a little timber.
