I made a trade today,
Out went my beautifull old FN .270. In cam a very nice old Ruger #1RSI chamberd for the 30,06.
I been looking at this rifle for awhile now.
and i just decided on a whim to see if I could swing a deal with out partring with any cash.
It worked out reall well.
The old FN is one heck of a rifle and I took a buck with it year befor last.
But it is a hevy darn thing for the caliber and I just can't see me lugging it out into the woods anymore when I have other equaly capable rifles that are much easier to carry.
The Ruger is an early one with the old pink recoil pad.
i already slapped a VX 2 leupold 1X4 on it,
And put together a stiff load of IMR-4350 and a speer 165 grain HC.
Gonna shoot it tommorow weather permitting.
With its 20 inch tube and very short overall length the Ruger will certainly be handy to carry in the woods.
It will also make a great saddle gun.
Not That I have ahorse, but I really eant to take a guided horse hunting trip one day, and this rifle will be about perfect.
I am expecting groups aproaching MOA with this rifle as I do most all of my hunting rifles.
Any body out there who might be in the market to start reloading for the .270 PM ME I have dies and tons of componants.
cash or 30,caliber stuff will get it for you and I will make an easy trade partner for this stuff.

Thomas, the 1A should be a 22" barrel... the RSI I believe is the shortest Ruger 1.

Good luck with an awesome rifle.

Wow, a full stock sweety... you are a lucky man. Wink

I bought a Ruger #1 RSI chambered in .270 Win.
The thought was to give her a rifle she could
handle well. It was perfect!!
I shortened the stock to a 12 3/4" pull because she was uncomfortable with the factory 13 1/2" pull. I also mounted a 1X4 Leupold. It was "magical" how she could handle it.
I worked up deer load just for her. A 100gr. BarnesX at 3100 f.p.s. It has accounted for two very nice blacktail bucks by her hands.
Since then, she has married and is involved in family life, and is just to busy with toddlers to have time for hunting.
So.....I just am keeping it for her 'till she is able to hunt again. I am finding that I REALLY like it!!! It is so fast on target!!
The little Ruger is just an absolute doll!!
You have a very sweet rifle!!
Wouldn't be wonderful is Ruger chambered the #1 RSI in something like .358 Winchester or, even better; 9.3X57!!!

You really didn't do that, did you? For a RUGER?

I have 2 more FNs.
I have 2 more rugers. I like them all. I would not be too likly to ever take that 8 lb FN .270 out hunting again, although it did a fine job on the Mule deer I shot with it.
The 06 I traded it for (if it shoots as well as my other 2 Rugers) will see lots of use.
I will post a pic. even if you don't like Rugers in general, this rifle has class.

I'm starting to think I could cut down the bore diameters I load for some myself. 30-06 just makes too much sense, I've got two of them now.

Rickt,
That is one of the resons I did the trade.
I have now 2. 06s and 3 ,308s. I know , the bullets are interchangable, and so are some of the powders.
IMR-4064 is great in 2 of my .308s.
Gotta try it inmy 06s too.
