Anybody have any comments, positive or negetive, on the Sako Finnbear L-61R .30/06, (pre-Garcia)?

And, would $900.00 for this rifle in unfired condition be a good deal???..Thanks in advance..sakofan.. [Smile]

Iwe read in the Norwegian forum Sluttstykke.com that the elder actions of l-61 and l-42 is far better than the newer (hunter).

I own quite a number of Sakos and I much prefer the pre-1972 models. They have a lighter barrel contour and slimmer, more gracefully contoured stocks. The metal finish, especially in the "standard" grade, is superior to the later models. The wood finish is about the same as later models, but SOMETIMES (rarely) you will find a poor checkering job on a pre-1972.

You don't say whether this rifle is the standard or the deluxe. I would consider $900 a little on the high side for the standard in a caliber as common as .30-06, and a little on the low side for a deluxe (assuming "unfired" condition). If the barrel is marked "Bofors", that will help the price a little.

Sakofan, $900 is too high for that rifle( standard Finnbear/30-06); $750 would be my absolute max, $700 would be fair. You can still find pre Garcia Finnbears in great condition for $550-$650. If it is has a Bofors marked barrel you can add $50-$75 dollars to the value. If it is a deluxe, $900 is a fair price, however, you can also find them slightly used for much less.

Alaska Bush Man, look on Guns America under sako. There is usually a couple of Finnwolfs for sale. They will run usually run between $900 and $1100. There was one for $795 that had a repaired stock. If you can, try to get one with the four-round magazines. These are the earlier and more desirable guns.
