Hi mikethebear,

Congratulations on your choice of rifle and caliber, Ive been hunting for some years with a Sauer 202 Stutzen rifle in 9.3x62 mm, barrel length is 51 cm, and Im very satisfied with it. Ive shot wild boars and red stag, and ALL the times the rifle/caliber worked perfectly.
I think that a short barrel in 9.3x62 mm is best suited for medium weight bullets, aprox. 250 gr., there is a very good load from Norma (factory) with a 232 gr Vulkan bullet.
I also like very much the RWS 247 gr. KS bullet, for longer shots, and Ive been thinking about trying the new S&B 250 gr. Barnes X.

Get the rifle, Im sure you will never regret it.

Good Hunting

Here are my loads and results in my CZ 550 FS 9.3x62mm. Nothing you whack with this rifle and caliber combination in the right place is coming back for seconds! As to the velocity difference, using the manual values as reference, the difference is meaningless, except for the Barnes load data, which is very low. The greater bearing surface may be the issue. I used overall cartridge length of 3.30" for the Barnes bullet and 3.23" for the Nosler Partitions.
Nosler Partition 286 grain, Norma cases, WLR primer, 59 degrees F, 59.0 gr Varget 2399 fps, std. dev. 18.41 fps; Nosler Partition 286 gr, 60 degrees F, 63.0 gr H414, 2196 fps, std dev 27.08 fps; Barnes X 286 grain, 60 degrees F, 57.0 gr H414, 2016 fps, std dev 32.89 fps; Barnes X 286 gr, 50 degrees F, 58.0 gr RL-15, 2367 fps, std dev 4.9 fps. The first load is from the Hodgdon website so should be solid. The second and third loads are from the respective manuals. The last load is from a Rifle Magazine article from the late Finn Aagard. His loads have always worked well for me, but you are on your own here. Since the first Nosler Partition load got my first black bear earlier this year with one shot, it is my favorite.
