That's touchy question over here in the USA. IMHO. Ballistic Tips have a slight edge in accuracy but negligible in the field. Newer BTs for hunting have much thicker jackets than the earier lots and penetrate much better than they used to. SSTs penetrate about as well. The argument is becomming moot though as both are now offering a bonded bullet which should eclipse the either of the originals. In any event, they both are regarded as medium game bullets.

I took a deer the year before last with .308 150gr SST out of a .308WIN the shot was under 50yds, the bullet held together at that velocity and performed as it should have. I really like the bullet and so does my Savage 10FP. This year I'm planning on using my new .300 H&H with the 165gr Hornaday Interbond (bonded SST)we'll have to see how it goes. I like the SST's Terry

I've used the SST's in my 308, '06 and 300 WinMag in weights of 150 and 165 gr. for 2 whitetail, two Blackbuck and one Axis. All the shots were reasonably close, from about 65-140 yds. All performed really well on these thin skinned animals with heart/lung shots. Probably anything tougher than say Red Stag I would go to a Partition type bullet. The SST's I've used the past two seasons really expand well, well enough I would be worried about using them on really tough game. Actually, thinking about it a few minutes, I would use them on just about anything. I'd sure try for a broadside shot though.
