I just received an email from midway as a reply to my request for notification when the Zastava actions were available.

The reply said they were available for back order....but still not available. I was under the impression that Midway dropped the Zastava actions totally!

At the current price of $279 (very subject to change) it's still a bargain.....for those that want to put one on backorder!

Cool!

I sure like my .25-06 Zastava!

I paid right at $300 for the action six years ago from WW Guns of AK.

You think that they are waiting to see how much interest there is before getting them in stock?
Wonder how long they will take back orders.

I'd much rather buy a used one that didn't have that darn cross pin release.

As usual just my $.02

Yup....I'd pay a premium for the release in the trigger bow!

Mine is an old Mark X from the late 70's and don't have much experience with the cross pin mag release. It looks like it's in a fairly ergonomic location why the negative association? Confused

mostly for me it forces me to carve a radius in the stock that I consider unsightly and difficult to use. The floor plate catch is also diminutive and fragile compared to the bow releases.

+1 Only issues I've had with the release coming open were with the cross pin. The bow release seems to hold better. I hate cutting a radius in the stock. Last but not least I HATE how they look. Big Grin

I did take one and cut the half of the button off on the side next to the stock. While the pine is still there I didn't have to radius the stock.

Only negative is the area you need to push on it cut in half and closer to the wood. You could probably get by with removing about the top 30%

Thanks it is my 308Norma. It is a bead blasted blue job. I've had a couple done after this one by Toomany Tools and his is a little more satin and not quite as dull. Toomany's looks more like a good rust blue job. I don't think his sand is as agressive.

Another way to get a pleasing "satin" blue job is to bring the metal to a fairly high polish and then using a fine wire brush under power.....brush the bejabbers out of it.

In my young and foolish days I blued in my spare time which ended up being every weekend. Roll Eyes I would take an old loose polishing wheel that was getting real frayed on the edges. Then load it with a coarse grit and then just let the fray contact the metal. Gave a stain similar to a factory satin. Same concept as your fine wire wheel. Toomany Tools satin is more uniform.

Frank, the action came with the triggers so I guess they are Zastava's.

Really, I have never seen one. I am going to contact Midway tomorrow and order and hopefully they can also supply the set trigger to fit.
Thank you,
Frank

The double set triggers are what my Zastava came equipped with, too. I like the triggers.

The action as a donor is a real plus IMO - especially those of us who desire a Left Hand Mauser action.

I purchased one in .30/06 Sprg.; immediately took it out of the stock, sawed the stock in half and put it in the fireplace at the hunting cabin.

The barreled action w/magazine & flooplate to the Gunsmith and a coupla weeks later a 9.3x62 appeared w/20" medium tube w/barrel band front sight. Dropped into a Bell & Carlson re-worked (R/H to L/H) Mauser action synthetic.

Cheers,
